Chicago Fire add a Pair

Kevin Ellis a denfender and  goalkeeper Patrick McLain have been picked up by the MLS team, Ellis is guarenteed for this 2018 season and a club option for next while Ellis has the same guarentee with a 2 year team option.  Nelson Rodriguez, President and GM  at the FIre felt that the defender made his mark with the ease of his adjusting to their style of play and the team at large, as he is ready to challange for a spot. As for the backstop we are very well aware of him and his coming back helps us.  

UWNT U-20 Group for 2018 World Cup in France

Group C will be home for the US U-23's at the World Cup along with Japan, Paraguay, & Spain, not an easy group by any means from Aug 5-24 at 4 various locations all in the Brittany region of France this draw occured at the Rennes Opera house. The US will being Aug. 6 @ 1:30 ET with Japan, then Paraguay AUg. 19  same time, their group play culminates Aug. Aug. 13 with Spain @ 7:30 am ET, the first 2 games will take place at Stade Guy-Piriou in Concarneau and final at Stade de Clous Gastel in Dinan Lehon.

NCFC has another return to the fold

Futty Danso has returned to the defensive corps of NCFC. HC Colin Clarke is glad to have him back, in that he is a returning player familiar with the landscape, the system and feels he will be a great addition. Danso was pleased to return to a team that has done so much for him going back to his PDL days, he has witnessed the clubs achivements and is charged up to be part of the growth. While with NCFC  the first go 'round, Futty played 1,450 minutes over 19 games, getting one goal, spending 6 years with the Timbers, to go along with time in Montreal and OKC.

Baby Bulls are in the 2018 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup

With the NYRB U-23 PDL team having qualified for this years cup, Sporting Director Dennis Hamlett explained that they are happy for this, that it is a tremendos exposure given their players as they face pro teams and advance their game, and all hope to be ready for the May opener.  Now in their 2nd Cup, missing out last season, 20 of the 98 teams are from the PDL in the total tourney, their last season results in the Mid Atlantic Division winning it with a record of 12-1-1 with a 37 goal differential got them in. Nine of these players are now in the pro ranks between MLS & USL.

Not so new news but still newsworthy news on Danny Szetela

Engaged on the field following a game for the NY Cosmos, now a happily married man, Danny is back in the fold. Word had him going to Motor CIty FC, he had played for he Armada but now he has extended his contract back where he belongs. Over his 5 seasons with the club he has been in over 100 games as a central midfielder, he is now the first player signed to the B team by the first one signed in the reboot era and new coach, former captain, Carlos Mendes.

Open Training Week with United Soccer Coaches

This innovative idea first trotted out last year has local higher level teams hositng open training session by the local colleges to attend. The St. John's University Women's Soccer program was the local one I went to  and it as well attended. It afforded the local coaches the rare opportunity to see a college training session up close and personal,  while interacting with the staff and student athletes. Head Coach Ian Stone and his staff were well prepared and the session moved along seemlessly, culminating with a question and answer session to highlight the day.

Mineola native and long time pro player, Carlos Mendes is still on the sidelines but is not to cross them now. One of many local players who have dotted this storied franchise since its return in 2013 he will be heading the coaching staff with a familar face or two as well with, Luis Gutierrez, back as First Asst. & Strength and Conditioning coach while Steven Dias is retained as the GK coach, his post for the last 3 years. The new league for the Green & White, the NPSl had their B team in it as well as they took the 2015 title.

DC United and Richmond Kickers pair up into extra time

MLS team DC United and USL side Richmond Kickers now continue with their official pairing now in its 6th year along with the 2013 deal with their leagues. As of now GK Travis Worra and Bolivian international Bruno Mirnada go to Richmond. Dave Kasper DC GM/VP of soccer operations explained they are happy relative to this pairing and energized as it goes to year 6 with them being a terrific team with a proper atmosphere and key in helping our players grow to their full potential. Just over 100 miles apart, this union is nearly 20 years old before becoming official in 2013.
