Sporting Kansas City Goes French

Remi Walker, a former youth international for France, now set to roam the midfield at Children's Mercy Parrk. The 25 year old inked a 3 year deal with a one year option for 2014, once his paperwork is done, he will take up an international spot. With over 200 games since 2012, he had played in France, and Turkey for a one year. At the U-17 & 21's he had been with his native France, he has played in top flite games not limited to UEFA Europa League, European Champions League qualifiers, French Ligue 1 with a trio of goals over 74 games and the Turkish Super Lig.

HC & Sporting Dir. Peter Vermes told "Remi Walter is an experienced midfielder who will add quality to our team. We are happy to welcome him to Kansas City and look forrward to his quick adaptation within our club."

Born in Essey-les-Nancy, Remi come up through the Academy at Nancy, then at 18 to their first team in 2013. Early on in the 2013-'14 season, he was starting on a regular basis and over the following 2.5 years he was a key player for them with 4 goals as they just failed to gain promotion to the first division in both 2014 & '15.

The halfway point of 2015 saw him off to Nice, it was extra nice as they were then in the running for the Title, they rose to #4, making the 2016-'17 UEFA League. Next season he had 26 games a quartet of those in the Europa League, and they gained a spot , finishing 3rd, good enough for the 2017-'18 UEFA Champions League.

2017, again a split season, between Nice & then on loan to Troyes. With Nice he was in UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the UEFA Europa League. Quality time at Troyes had him back to Nice and ex-NYCFC coach Patrick Viera. 22 games and 2 league goals, the best the GWG in a 1-0 win over Lyon, they made the Champions League. HIs fist brace was needed to eek out the 3-2 victory over Auxerre during round 3 of the 2018-'19 French Cupe de la Ligue.

Another split season in 2019-'20 where he finished the year in Turkey with Yeni Malatyaspor in the top tier. 9 games in Super Lig from March-July were played by Remi, in the summer he was gone.

Representing his nation, Walter again was in big matches, the 2021 UEFA U-17 Championship, played in Slovenia and making it to the 2017 UEFA U-21 Championship hosted by Poland. His teammates internationally include 2018 World Cup winners Thomas Lemar, Benjamin Pavard & Corentin Tolisso. Also teammates for France were a pair now with Manchester City, Aymeric Laporte & Benjamin Mendy, Manny U's Anthony Martial was another.
