No Game for the Cosmos, How 'bout another Interview

By Sean McCaffery, August 29, 2020

Shavon John-Brown was kind enough to give us some of his time to discuss things this week. He of course had a good game facing New Amsterdam for the 2nd time in this greatly abbreviated season of NISA and has been in the local soccer scene for some time now as well as playing internationally for his Grenada. When asksed about how he, his family etc. both here and back home are, it was a most welcome answer, that all are well. He did find it rather difficult to train during the height of the shutdown due to the Coronavirus, though was able to get in a lot of running.

The Cosmos are not out this Weekend, but Read our Interview

By Sean McCaffery, August 28, 2020

We were able to catch up with just the 2nd captain of the most famous brand is USA soccer since their reboot, only to find the next game was not to be. We began by inquiring as to how his family has been through this Coronavirus crisis, thank goodness, all are well on his side of the family and that of his wife.

During the worst of times, he did find it tough to train as the fields were closed, but was able to get in a lot of roadwork and do body weight exercises.

A Conversation with Bledi Bardic

By Sean McCaffery, August 27, 2020

The Cosmos were in our favor as we scored our 2nd interview of the year with this perennial fan favorite, once in the off season and just days before the big rematch with the one team that got in their way of yet another title last year, Detroit City FC. Bledi got the start in Warwick taking on New Amsterdam and yes of course he delivered with a goal and was dangerous throughout.

One game suspension for Atlanta's Escobar

By Sean McCaffery, August 24, 2020

He took down Nashville Forward, Badji at 38' of their game on the 22nd and was ejected for violent conduct. On the 26th, United play Inter Miami.

The suspension was considered under Disciplinary Committee Parameter #3, they may do so when PRO admits an on-field ref or VAR error and the vote must be all in favor if at least one game is the suspended period. That would be a red card without doubt, and very bad or repeated behavior, they must then act to protect player safety and the integrity of the game. Please see Soccer Atlanta Magazine for the video.

NISA Suspends Sembroni for rest of Year, Now an Ex-Cosmos Player

By Sean McCaffery, August 24, 2020

This is really the least that should be done by the league, the team's statement "While Emmanuele has played his last game for the Cosmos." For me he was done once his foot came down, as a former ref, you do not get to walk around the field, hang at the bench while your victim is treated, out of the field area ASAP, gone.

The Last Shall be First

By Sean McCaffery, August 24, 2020

The MLS Player of the Week, Raul Ruidiaz earned his award in style last night, leading his Sounders past the Timbers with a brace and an assist, a foot in each goal. Both goals have already been posted to Soccer Seattle Magazine. The forward takes the 6th such title on the season in the top tier of USA Soccer. The nationally televised game that kept me up well past my bedtime, much beyond midnight was a 3-0 Cascadia Cup win by the MLS champs over the MIB title holder Timbers. I had Portland and Bayern so I went 1-1 on the day.

Cascadia Cup

By Sean McCaffery, August 23, 2020

Sunday at 10 p.m. ET, the winners of the MIB tourney Timbers take on the MLS champs Sounders. A pair of historic teams getting at it as they did in their first go 'round. As of now, the Timbers must be the favorites but you never know what may happen. Both coaches were great players, one far more experienced than the other, I know both and wish them both well.

Bayern takes the Champions League

By Sean McCaffery, August 23, 2020

Bayern was the better of the teams, top to bottom. Many goals were expected, I did not think one would be enough for either side but the Coman header off a scoop pass stood the test of the rest of the time, 30' of the game. The ref did miss some things, a PK for Mbape as his foot was kicked out in the area, but was Lewandowski also fouled in the area, and Davies? Being consistent is what is asked of the man in the middle, but he did a great job, neither team should be taking issue, he let them play a bit when it got a bit physical but began to card players as the level raised.

Toronto 1-0 Vancouver

By Sean McCaffery, August 22, 2020

Highlights may be found on Soccer Vancouver Magazine as well as Soccer Toronto Magazine. Next up in Canadian MLS action is Tue. as the 'Caps take on the Impact at 5 p.m. PT on TSN1/4 & TSN Radsio 1040.

The very start had this set to be a tight game, the sole goal is amongst the highlights we have for you, the swift Richie Laryea hit the lower right 90, barely eluding Hasal who had a great MIB tourney for the 'Caps.

Finally, Cosmos do not Wear a Tie

By Sean McCaffery, August 21, 2020

They were undefeated coming into the game yet had not won a game. They had not lost a game but were scoring less than a goal a game. They had not given up more than 1 goal a game but had yet to win. All that changed, even getting a goal after going a man down, they had already given one up while a man up in another game. Is this the tipping point they sought from the opening whistle of all games? Doubt it as they had a great many lulls where they yet again, played down to the level of their opponents.
