RBNY Hope they Picked an Apple in MLS Re-Entry Draft

Hoping they have as much luck as with #13, Mike Grella, NYRB used the 13th pick in this draft to select Kendall McIntosh, this Stage 1 choice made him a Red Bull. Stage 1 selections have their 2020 options picked up or have the 2020 offer match their 2019 pay, Stage 2 players are able to redo their deals. The 25 year old was with Timbers and T2. Out of Santa Rosa CA, he played first for Portland facing San Jose in a Lamar Hunt US Open Cup match June 6 , with a shutout in the 2-0 win. Over his 3 years there, he had 60 starts and 10 shutouts with T2 since '16.

Women's MAC Hermann Trophy Semifinalists

The top award in soccer is the Hermann, 15 are still in the running from the women's game as the voting by NCAA D I women's coaches has been tabulated. World Wide Technology presents this award as it has been done since 1967, Catarina Macario of Stanford, again in the running and just a junior along with Andrew Gutman of Indiana, the most recent honorees. Fri. Dec. 6, with the Women's College Cup in San Jose CA, the 3 finalists will be revealed. This year, the banquet will be at the MAC in St. Louis Jan. 3. Below are the final 15 in school order.

NYCFC Signs a Bronx Native from Within

Tayvon Brown who of late has created quite a buzz has now inked his first pro deal. Tayvon informed "I'm very excitied to sign with New York CIty FC. I'm a Bronx kid and this is my hometown team, so to start my professional career in New York City is a dream come true." There is now a quartet of Academy products on the first team, although one, Joe Scally of Lake Grove is signed elsewhere.

Vancouver Makes a Loan out to K League 1

MLS club Vancouver Whitecaps have put a player out to Suwon Samsung Bluewings of the K League 1 in loaning them defender Doneil Henry, at the same time, they will not exercise their option on def?wing Victor "PC" Giro. HC Marc Dos Santos stated "We are thankful for the contributions Donell & PC made on and off the pitch during their time in  Vancouver and we wish them all the best". Henry of Ontariao at just 26 now had been signed by way of the MLS Allocation Process in Dec. of 2017.

The Ex is Next

Ex USWNT HC Jill Ellis, tapped as next Women's Soccer Award of Excellence honoree for USC. During their annual convention on Sat. Jan. 18 Jill will be so honored by WAGS in Baltimore. Since it's inception in 1999, this Award has been given to whoever they determined attracted honor and distinction to women's soccer. Wags is a source of funds utilized to further the women's game via numerous chairable programs for women and girls in soccer. USC Pres. Jeff Farnsworth stated "Jill Ellis is a very deserving recipient of the Women's Award of Excellencce".

New Badge, Ex-Players for Fire

LIke all other MLS teams, they have not exercised their options on a number of players in Chitown. Elliott Collier, Nicolas Gaitan, Aleksander Kata, Christian Martinez, Armando Moreno , David Ousted & Richard Sanchez. They may take some solace in that they will not be wearing the new crest on their chest this coming season.

The Fire Get Issued a New Badge

This new design is different that is for sure, the new name, Chicago Fire Football Club or Chicago Fire FC not so much, but the rebrand has arrived for one of the original teams of MLS. As explained by new majority owner Joe Mansueto " I always loved the Chicago Fire name. The new badge including the fire crown represents that spirit." There is a message in this badge, the mirror effect is to show the flames opposite each other creating a crown, the Fire Crown, relating the tale of the Windy City and it's rebirth to triumph.

The Reign of Reyna has Ended at NYCFC as Captain America goes South

They best be paying him a boatload of money to start yet another team from scratch or perchance Claudio Reyna is a glutton for punishment. After a very disappointing post season, one and done in staggering fashion, the Sporting Director of the only pro soccer team in NYC has moved on to Austin FC. David Lee will move up the ladder in NYCFC from Technical to Sporting Director. The landscape of local soccer has changed so much in the last few days, this is another loss for local soccer. The first hire of the team in 2013, Reyna was fully at the helm in building it from scratch.

2020=New Look New York Red Bulls

Half a dozen players did not have their options picked up by the NYRB, their hear and soul of the last several seasons are gone. Luis Robles had his option declined, Bradley Wright-Philips is out of contract. Joing them or rather not joining them or the team again next year are 2nd generation player and Haitian National Team regular Derrick Etienne Jr, Jean-Christophe Koffi & GK Evan Louro. Already retired is of course St. John's Alum and fan fav, Connor Lade, newcomer who did very well Josh Sims is back to England following completion of his loan from Southampton.

Sporting Kansas City Makes their Moves

SKC announced the options they will not be picking up and there are some well known names, I am sure some will be taken by the expansion teams, possibly other MLS teams as well. Those who did not have their options exercised by the team, Seth Sinovic, Benny Feilhaber, Gedion Zelalem, Krisztian Nemeth, Nico Hasted & Rodney Wallace.

The team will conduct their training camp in AZ again, they start Jan. 19-21, returning there Feb. 8-22.
