Fire add one from their Academy

Mauricio Pineda has inked a deal with the Fire via a Homegrown Player contract, and is signed for this season, with team options for the next trio of years.

HC Raphael Wicky informed "We're very happy that Mauricio has decided to return to Chicago to begin his professional career. He has all the abilities necessary to become an impactful player. I'm looking forward to working with Mauricio to help him reach his potential."

Tomorrow they begin being on field, Friday they are off to Calif. the WFC National Soccer Development Centre at UBC turf until Thurs., Fri, has them off to CA, returning Thur. Feb. 6. 

Jan. 20-24 Schedule:

20: Train from 10 a.m.

21: Train from 10 a.m., back late afternoon for a 2nd session.

22: Train from 10 a.m. 

23: Train from 10 a.m., back late afternoon for a 2nd season.

24: Travel day.

NYRB set Preseason roster for initial camp

The opening of a pair of camps kicked off today as the team flew to Bradenton, they will play exhibition games at the IMG Academy until Feb. 1. NY starts with 30 players with 21 out of 24 rostered in camp, all missing are international players, a pair are with their respective NT's Cristian Casseres Jr and Aaron Long while Kemar Lawrence is dealing with family matters, he is expected in Florida on Jan. 27. Aaron is with the team at IMG, closed door scrimmage perhaps?, also at IIMG, while Casseres is with the U-23's of Venezuela and CONMEBOL Olympic Qualifying games.

Fire gets an Impact out of Montreal in the form of $75,000 in GAM

Both teams have new coaches in MLS and the sides did close out a deal from back on Aug. 7, 2019 when they traded draft positions as Chicago got Michael Azira. Given the details of the transaction, should Montreal select a player with the #1 allocation spot, Chicago would then receive the money upon Montreal signing the player, well on Jan. 15, they signed their selection, Ballou Tabla. Chicago took the #6 spot in the trade as well

The world's largest coaches goup, United Soccer Coaches are in the midst of their annual convention, once again in Baltimore, today they came out with the  winners in their media contest.

Fire go to Z, adding Zdrillic as an Asst. Coach

HC Raphael Wicky has gone deeper into the alphabet than his last name, not an easy task, in tabbing David Zdrillic for his staff. 

Wicky informed "David has a wealth of experience as both a player and a coach and we're delighted to have him join the Fire. He's played at a high level, he can relate to the players and he will bring a winning mentality to this club."

Yanks are off to Wales

The long awaited 2nd game in the US and their 2020 European Tour has been set, March 30, Cardiff CIty Stadium will be the host for the 2:30 p.m. ET kick. Just 4 days after the Holland game at Phillips Stadium in Eindhoven.  The first game will be carried by FS1, UniMas & TUDN as the next will start at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, UniMas & TUDN. This new game will be between the pair of teams tied with a #22 World Ranking as the #14 Holland is but the 4th top 20 team to take on the USMNT with coach Gregg Berhalter, yet the 10th over the last 2 years.

Vlatko names his 20 for Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers

Jan. 28 will be the first game facing Haiti in Houston in their quest to make the Tokyo games, qualiying runs until Feb. 9, culminating in California. Of course, the USWNT have the opening game from this tourney that will send the best pair onto the Olympics. Next up for the defending World Cup winners will be Panama on Fri. Jan. 31, ending play in Group A with Costa Rica, Mon. Feb. 3, all US games begin at 7:30 p.m. CT. While the men have missed out on the last few Olympics, the women seek to make it to the 7th in a row and take the Concacaf Olympic top spot for the 5th time running.

NYRB add Armor to their defense

BODYARMOR Sports Drink is now the official sports drink of NYRB as well as 18 other teams in the league. This partnership to extend a few years will kickoff with the 2020 MLS season, they first had an agreement with MLS announced in Sept. 2019 to start at this same time. 

The how to on becoming the SheBelieves Hero

For the past trio of years, one young woman has gone on to claim this title, 2020 shall be no different for this key compnent of the SheBelieves initiative. Those who consider entering this nationwide contest should personify what SheBelieves is all about and allow the chance by US Soccer, former players and supporters to appreciate the tremendous work by those who strive to raise the quality of life for those in their areas. This will run from Jan. 16-Feb. 17 and result in one young person aged 13-17 having been selected as the 2020 SheBelieves Hero.
