Naeher, Needed, Not in Next Game

Yes, the USWNT is still in the Olympics, they will play next in the Bronze Medal game taking on the Matildas. She injured her right knee in suffering a hyperextension of it and a bone contusion upon landing as she went for the ball. She held strong for some 8 minutes, but on a goal kick it was just too much.

Come Aug. 5, she will not dress, her MRI, thank goodness indicated zero soft tissue damage, she is expected to be out for many weeks.

Yes, just the 2nd game in on this Olympiad, it may very well have been a must win game, unfamiliar territory for the reigning World Cup winners. Their last time out was not so good, this was a far weaker opponent so it is a better outcome but does not mean in one way or the other that the woes exposed in the game with Sweden have been solved. Gone were so many high crossing balls from the wing, present was much better movement of the ball, well taken shots, far more time on the ball and more. Thought to come out angry, the team seemed very controlled.

Now the USWNT are aware of how the rest of the world feels in playing them. Start to finish domination, more energy, better support, passing and more spelt the end to a 43 game winning steak. Yes, forever the games with Sweden have been tight, but the US just were hardly in form. The press of Sweden did not stop and they were unable to break it. Passes just off, players not opening up, the inability to get together on most crossing balls into the area, but keep trying for an hour and a half?, take a player on, play it in on the ground something. Predictable to a fault, to a loss.

Should your side not be in any of the pro leagues, and not in an amateur league seeking the Open Division National League, both NPSL & USL 2 have gone this route having the year before set the qualifiers, the Qualifying route is for you. 

USMNT Gold Cup Notes

Although it was an early lead with head ball by Vines from Zardes that proved to hold for the next 82', the US was dangerous in the first stages of the game. Zimmerman beat up the goal frame with a few attempts. That assist put Zardes into some rare air as he became the 2nd fastest to achieve 10 assists & 10 goals, his 57 caps was only outdone by US Soccer legend Landon Donovan. He joins soccer royalty, Cobi Jones, Clint Dempsey, Earnie Stewart, USSF Sporting Dir.

US & Martinque

On paper, this should be no issue, but for how accurate that is,  see the Haiti game, a 1-0 squeaker for the USA. Yes Martinique is a far weaker team, the US is expected to give some players more time including a pair who I do not feel have been given a good enough look in Gianluca Busio of SKC and James Sands of NYCFC, ditto for his club GK, Sean Johnson, is this homerisim, maybe but he has yet to give up a goal in international play. In just under 5 hours this game will begin from the home of SKC, Children's Mercy Park on FS1 from 10 p.m. ET, pre-game beginning half an hour earlier..

Important Consideration for the Saturday Game of RBNY & MIami

In that the team has not been able to close games out, a prime example being their most recent 85' giving up a goal, snatching a tie from the hands of victory. They were not doing their typical pressing and relented on a soft goal, they look the same on the scoreboard. Literally last night when I was asked by an A Lic. Coach by USSF as to how they are doing, I cited the record and the fact that they had had given away a few games.
