Kicking & Screening Soccer Film festival, Mess & Me, NYRB & fashion

By Sean McCaffery, May 24, 2018

While watching a movie it is asked of you to suspend reality, imagine all that you see IS actually possible. This way people can bounce bullets off their chest, flip upside down and shoot projectiles at their enemies. During our interview with the Director much of this was covered but in short, there was a game, Messi & Friends to be played in Soilder Field, they were short players for the game. Northwestern was reached out to for players, they came through. Some had not played in years others kept in shape, they rounded out the roster many getting the start.

Opening Night Flick, Football for Better of Worse

By Sean McCaffery, May 21, 2018

This title should have been read to my wife before we married. There is a problem in soccer, the disparity in pay between what men and women make. This looks at a team in Sweden, FC Rosengard very successful on the field not so much off it. The efforts of their top player who then goes "upstairs" to more of a corporate position, what a revelation that was. They do go over the difference in pay on a percentage it is a massive difference. What causes this, less money coming in and more things.

MLS Ironman Robles Has His Streak Come to an End

By Sean McCaffery, May 19, 2018

183 straight games in MLS play have come to an end for NYRB backstop Luis Robles, he has been spelled in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup matches etc. Those from the ATL who may find this to be an act of providence must understand that the NYRB have for some time now had 2 starting 'keepers with Ryan Meara. Not a good time for the kneee injury but let's see how it all plays out tomorrow at 7 p.m. on FS1. Having not missed a start since his premiere game with the team in Sept. of 2012 is a big adjustment some 16,470 minutes with a great 86 wins and a ridiculous 52 shutouts in those victories.

By Sean McCaffery, May 19, 2018

No spoiler here. Set in the time that the FIFA  World Cup of 1982 was taking place in Spain and of course every little boy here in Poland, although under martial law wants to play and be their hero Boniek, one opts for Platini. They and their friends gather on a makeshift field and play out their fantasy game. There is but one ball amongst them and of course it is the official ball of the tourney the adidas Tango, and of course the ball after an errant rebound gets confiscated, the two main characters conspire on how to get back their prized possession.

Producer of Mess & Me, Jake Abraham showing at Kicking & Screening

By Sean McCaffery, May 17, 2018

The Kicking & Screening Soccer Film Festival will kick off on May 22 @ Scandanavia House in NYC and on th 23rd will show Messi & Me, we caught up with the producer, Jake Abraham. This is a movie that is the outgrowth of one kick, ok it was a bicycle kick, yes it was a game with Leo Messi et al playing, it did go for a goal, and give the soccer career of the player, Matt Eliason a new life, so yes that one kick thing was a bit of an oversimplification.
