Chicago Fire Update

Coming off the home win facing the Supporters Shield winners of last year, in NYRB, they are now off to TFC in BMO Sat. the 6th for their 2nd road trip of this young 2019 season. This game kicks off at 2p.m CT and will be live on ESPN + and locally on Univision Radio, 93.5 Latino Mix. For this 30th meet with the northerners they are 1-2-1 with 4 points as they shut out NYRB for their first blank sheet of the year on the 30th.

Soccer Movie Showtimes

The Drummer & the Keeper features Dermot Murphy, last seen as Bob Geldof in Bohemian Rhapsody. Is about a special needs team with a mainstream teammate with other issues and how he relates to them, and one in particular. It will show throughout the NY area over the next week or so.  The 3rd it is to be shown at Lehman College in the Bronx in their Music Building at 5. The 6th has it at the NYPL Mid Manhatten Library starting at 3, while the 7th has it out in Huntington at the Cineman Arts Centre at 3.

On the strength of their 1-0 win over Ecuador, they finish the FIFA window with the champions of the last two Copa Americas in Chile from Houston. Starting at 7:55 on ESPN2, UniMas & UDN or follow with Facebook, Twitter and IG accounts of the USMNT. 

The players with local ties include Sean Johnson of NYCFC, Aaron Long of Red Bull, Matt Miazga of NJ and former Red Bull, Tim Ream a former Red Bull, Michael Bradley of NJ, a former Metro Star, Tyler Adams from NY, NYRB now with RB Lepzieg, Christian Pulisic, father from LI &  Jonathan Lewis of NYCFC. 

NYCFC Home Opener 0-0 with DC United

This was my first game with Soccer Long Island Magazine and it was facing my hometown DC United at historic Yankee Stadium no less. It was a cool damp day for a hard fought battle of eastern division rivals, NYCFC & DC United did not disappoint. Both teams had their chances on goal and the pair of USMNT goalkeepers were more than up to the task.

Not here to defend a title, so much as to win another, the 2018 NWSL champs are back at it under the tutelege of Long Island Legend, Paul Riley. Almost 40 players are expected with no less than 10 not yet in camp due to Natioinal Team commitments, we hope to see all of those tomorrow facing tammate Debinha. Our friend, Shannon Horgan who had us out to a few of her events and a training session that left me exhausted is in camp for her former youth coach as non roster invitee, she should have no issues with any of the fitness work whatsoever.

New York Cosmos add a Ram with Lewis

Fordham grad Matt Lewis, after a year in USL having signed with MLS team Sporting KC then off to their USL team, Swope Park Rangers. Matt stated, "I'm stoked to be a part of the historic New York Cosmos. I feel I have a lot to prove. I would like to thank Joe Barone, Carlos Mendes, I plan to be a part of a championship." While with Swope Park, he had 12 regular season games. At Fordham he had 84 games with 5 goals and assists.
