Half a Dozen Clubs Join the Girls Academy One from LI adds an Age Group

Now standing at 71 clubs and 342 teams, the academy system goes bigger in its efforts to impact everyday environments in producing world class players. Now with an U-16 level where Long Island Sc based out of Plainveiw will field a team sets this up to now with just shy of 7,000 players. 

The New Academy Teams & Age Groups:

Albion, NV, All ages

Cedar Stars Academy NJ, U-14 & 15's

Salvo, MN, All ages

SJEB Rush, NJ, U-14 & 15's

South Shore Select, MA, All ages

STA Development Academy, NJ, All ages

2 C's Play to a Tie, Cinci and Chicago

One of leagues most venerable teams were knotted up @ 84' with one yet to play an official MLS game. This preseason match was part of the Carolina Challenge Cup contested at MUSC Health Stadium. Unable to put away a number of opportunities in the opening stanza, just 8 minutes into the second they went up on a goal assisted by Nikolic scored by Katai. This was his 3rd in 4 preseason games as it came off a loss of possession deep in Cincinnati terrritory and the ball from Nemanja was played into space for him to put away.

Another Cosmo Returns Home

Salvatore Barone who advanced from the academy to Cosmos B and then the first team is back after 10 games with Penn FC, now on hiatus for thier first team but not youth programs. Salvatore said, " I am very happy to be returning to such an amazing club with so much history." Now just 23 he had his first pro game with NY, in the NASL facing Indy Eleven in 2017. He is one of a trio from Penn FC to come to NY, joining Aaron Dennis & Pedro Galvao. NY Head Coach, Carlos Mendes informed "Sal is a player who has grown up in our academy. He undestand the culture of the Cosmos."

The Prodigal Son Returns, Diosa Mio

David Diosa is back in the fold with the Green-and-White. Earlier this week, the NY Cosmos made it known that they had reacquired their 5 year mainstay who started with their academy in 2010,  netting their first goal to then join the first team in the first year of the reboot era, 2013.  David stated, "I'm really happy to return home and play for the club. I'm excited to play again for the most historic team in the U.S." He had played a myriad of positions for the team during his tenure, getting his first game in 2013 facing Atlanta as a sub in a 1-0 win.

Chicagoland fans will get a double treat as the Fire first face the Rapids at noon CT followed by the 2:30 kick of the Red Stars and Thorns, marking the 4th year these 2 have played a double header together. All Fire tix come with a Red Stars ducat. Those making use of the pub to pitch bus program are also able to avail themselves to the pair of games, but you must RSVP on it by April 17.

YES to Show 22 NYCFC Games in 2019

Yes, the broadcast partner for NYCFC will broadcast almost 2 dozen games the team announced for the upcoming regualr season. Opening with the opening game facing MLS Champions, Atlanta United. Each of these games will also be live streamed on the Fox Sports Go app at 8p.m. Joe Tolleson and Ian Joy are back for their 5th year of play-by-play & analyst work, as our frined Janusz Michallik is back as well for game analysis. The Feb. 22 preseason match with Nashville will be live as well on YES and streamed.

No, not his father of the ES National Team of the 80's but Junior Burgos, father Efrain has retired, however they play the same position. Junior informed "I'm excited and motivated for a new challenge, especially with such a prestigious and historic organizatioin like the New York Cosmos." At 30 he is in his playing prime and is fully expected to lend a creative touch to the team bringing with him his reputation as a restart specialist, one of which lead to the 2015 NASL Goal of the Year. Chicago Fire add a Supporters Group keep a Charity

The Fire and Section 8 Chicago jointly let it be known that a new supporters section has been established in section 137. They both are expected to pack the house at the newly named SeatGeek Stadium on Mar. 9 for the home opener facing Orlando at noon. All groups and the team alike have recommitted to back Fire For Food, the initative of the team to raise funds in support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Open Training Week Returns with United Soccer Coaches

This is a great thing which the St. John's Women's Soccer Team have hosted in it's first 2 years, so of course we went there, where will we attend this year? The week of April 1-7 will be the dates for this nationwide program supported by both Pro and College teams as they welcome local coaches in their markets to a training session in order to unite coaches around the love of the game. Coaches from any/all levels are most welcome to attend and observe this higher level of training session, trade ideas and learn from eachother.
