Whitcaps & Sporting KC Make a Deal

The ever valuable first pick of SKC has been secured by the "Caps as well as their 2nd pick of 2020 when they sent over Erik Hurtado. "Caps HC Marc Dos Santos stated, "We are thankful to Erik for his contributions on and off the pitch over his 6 seasons in Vancouver." Erik now 28, with 17 goals over 13 assists over 123 appearances for 6 years was the 5th pick overall in 2013, spending the second half of 2015 in Norway with Mjendalen IF.

Jerry Yeagley had been a top college coach at Indiana University for many deccades, now his son is in that position, the winner is gettting a massive accolade. I first met Coach Yeagley in the 80' and have come to know him more recently, the description of the award does not even scratch the surface of the man whose moniker it bears. The Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Personal Service, presented annually to a former collegiate soccer student-athlete who has demonstrated extraordinary accomplishments beyond soccer itself.

Fire Select a Pair in MLS Waiver Draft

Two internationals were selected in Cristian Martinez & Marco Urena, Matrinez was choice # 4 while Urena was # 26, both will be offered formal contracts. The 21 year old Cristian spent the last 3 seasons with the Crew, getting 27 games with his MLS high in games @14, 11 starts & 2 assists. For his country, Martinez now has 7 caps debuting in their 1-0 win over El Salvador. For his part, Urena spent last season with LAFC, with a goal and 5 assists over 18 games. 2017 saw him more active with the 'Quakes, 25 games, good for 5 goals and 3 assists.

Vancouver Whitecaps in the News yet Again

Yet again making news, Vancouver has inked  Andy Rose from Scottish Premiership Motherwell FC by getting his MLS rights from the Sounders for $50,000 in GAM and has a 2 year deal with a 1 year team option. 'Caps HC Marc do Santos stated on Rose, "Andy is a great guy who is going to show up every day." Following 3 years in the UK, the 26 year old returns to the MLS in Scotland, he had 2 goals over 53 games. In 1.5 years in the EFL, and Coventry City, he had 5 goals over 40 games and led them to the Trophy in 2017.

United Soccer Coaches DI Scholar All-Americans named

With the same criteria as the other Scholar All-Americans we named earlier today there are a pair with local ties to be named in DI. From a line of soccer players in his family, Hofstra Senior Defender, Sean Nealis of Massapequa was selected with his almost perfect 3.7 in the demanding Accounting program out of Hofstra. Columbia also had one Lion maned or rather named, Dylan Castanheira possibly a student of former USSF prez., Sunil Gulati in being an Economics student  carrying a 3.43 GPA.

FC Cincinatti is still Wheeling & Dealing

Before the first game and scant hours after making their 5 selections in the 2018 MLS Expansion draft, FCC has already paid out in excess of $1,000,000 in Allocation Money. Just after the draft, they dropped a quarter mil. on ATL UTD for Greg Garza, now another $825,000 goes to the Whitecaps for Kendall Watson along with an international spot. This establishes a new record in money for a single defender.

Only the Chicago Fire put out a list to press, from MLS, here is a full and complete list.The 5 teams that are not exposed as they lost a player last year in the draft to LAFC are, the Crew, Earthquakes, Sounders, SKC & Toronto. Other than Generation adidas players and homegrown each team is able to protect 11 players. Designated players are not automatically protected however if one has a no trade clause contract, he then must be protected. No team may lose more than one player, there will be 5 rounds, 3 minutes per selection, no timeouts, no trades during draft.

USWNT draw in a group with Thailand, Chile & Sweden for WC 2019

The next iteration of the World Cup will occur from June 7- July 7 in 9 different venues. The draw completed a few hours ago was done at the Le Sein Musicale and arts center in Paris. With the top ranking going into the tourney, the US was one of 6 seeded teams then put into Pot 1 with the others, France as then the USA was last selected, into Group F. Jill Ellis, USWNT HC had this to say, "It's a good group, a European team, Asia & South America." Opening round game oppponent will be Thailand on June 11 in Reims, Chile is next up June 16 in Paris, lastly Sweden, June 20 in Le Harve.
