Going bi coastal but avoiding the massive costs of travel with play between each of the two coasts. The title game is expected to feature a team from each of these two. The set up will serve to build rivalries and build the buzz of this tourney as it goes from Aug. to Nov. 2019. This will be the lead in to a full schedule for spring to fall in 2020. As they warm up for their sophmore season, USL side, Nashville Soccer Club who knocked off an MLS club in the US Open Cup look for their 2nd 1st tier victim in NYCFC. They are set to join MLS themselves after a mere 2 years of existence in 2020. In the inagural season, they were good for 8th in their conference, making the playoffs, losing to 2019 MLS entrant FC Cincinnati on pks in the opening round. The most recent interm HC of the USMNT has landed with NCFC, I am surprised that he was still available for hire at this time. The signing is seen as the start of a new era by the team as they enter this next step in their evolution. He will of course head the pro team while keeping a keen eye on their youth-to-pro pipeline and player development with Academy Director, John Bradford retaining that position while serving as the assistant coach. Nic Platter is now advanced to Asst. GM as he continues on as GK coach, more staff announcements are forthcoming.

An early season test in facing the best of 2018, Sat. Mar. 9 against two time defending titleholders, time tba. A big opening day, biggest ever for the USL as 17 games are on tap more than any other year. All 3 dozen clubs now know of when and where they begin their quest for the Cup and 4 expansion clubs will host openers. Locally NYRB II host Swope Park Rangers, a reply of the 2016 title match.

The ever valuable first pick of SKC has been secured by the "Caps as well as their 2nd pick of 2020 when they sent over Erik Hurtado. "Caps HC Marc Dos Santos stated, "We are thankful to Erik for his contributions on and off the pitch over his 6 seasons in Vancouver." Erik now 28, with 17 goals over 13 assists over 123 appearances for 6 years was the 5th pick overall in 2013, spending the second half of 2015 in Norway with Mjendalen IF.
