Two internationals were selected in Cristian Martinez & Marco Urena, Matrinez was choice # 4 while Urena was # 26, both will be offered formal contracts. The 21 year old Cristian spent the last 3 seasons with the Crew, getting 27 games with his MLS high in games @14, 11 starts & 2 assists. For his country, Martinez now has 7 caps debuting in their 1-0 win over El Salvador. For his part, Urena spent last season with LAFC, with a goal and 5 assists over 18 games. 2017 saw him more active with the 'Quakes, 25 games, good for 5 goals and 3 assists.

Yet again making news, Vancouver has inked  Andy Rose from Scottish Premiership Motherwell FC by getting his MLS rights from the Sounders for $50,000 in GAM and has a 2 year deal with a 1 year team option. 'Caps HC Marc do Santos stated on Rose, "Andy is a great guy who is going to show up every day." Following 3 years in the UK, the 26 year old returns to the MLS in Scotland, he had 2 goals over 53 games. In 1.5 years in the EFL, and Coventry City, he had 5 goals over 40 games and led them to the Trophy in 2017.

With the same criteria as the other Scholar All-Americans we named earlier today there are a pair with local ties to be named in DI. From a line of soccer players in his family, Hofstra Senior Defender, Sean Nealis of Massapequa was selected with his almost perfect 3.7 in the demanding Accounting program out of Hofstra. Columbia also had one Lion maned or rather named, Dylan Castanheira possibly a student of former USSF prez., Sunil Gulati in being an Economics student  carrying a 3.43 GPA.

Before the first game and scant hours after making their 5 selections in the 2018 MLS Expansion draft, FCC has already paid out in excess of $1,000,000 in Allocation Money. Just after the draft, they dropped a quarter mil. on ATL UTD for Greg Garza, now another $825,000 goes to the Whitecaps for Kendall Watson along with an international spot. This establishes a new record in money for a single defender.
