A Canuck, now a Gamecock is USC College Player of the Week

Samantha Chung of Ontario, playing for South Carolina has been so honored. Her GWG in the 71' brought her team to a 2-1 victory over the then unbeaten Arkansas, it was her 2nd such goal and her team has only defeated one team ranked higher in its history. 

We at Soccer Long Island Magazine congratulate her on the goal and her team on the upset victory.

USC Tabs Teams Pinnacle Award Winners

A total of 32 teams have been selected to this high honor by the largest group of soccer coaches in the world, United Soccer Coaches, among them 23 High School & 9 College sides, for the 2019-'20 academic year.

A trio of women's college teams, Eastern CT State U, SUNY Geneseo & Webster U. along with a quartet of female HS teams.

Christ Presbyterian Academy TN, Mt Vernon HS IN, South River HS MD & Poly Prep in Brooklyn, the last pair have reached this milestone the last 2 years.

Sporting KC go Young with Harris

No longer a retirement league with all these 20 somethings and teenagers in the MLS, Wilson Harris has inked his deal with SKC. The lucky 13th player out of their Academy, the Homegrown striker is with the team including options through the 2023 season. With SKC II he has 23 goals since 2018, making him the youngest player in the USL Championship to net more than 20.

Zusi on the Mend

Sporting KC player and former USMNT stalwart, defender Graham Zusi has had successful surgery this day to address a midfoot sprain of his left foot. Ortho. Dr. Kirk McColluch of the KC Orthopedic Institute was the surgeon, he is to be out for the next 4-5 months for rehab, thusly, closing out his 2020 season.

Queensboro FC a Founding Member of USL Academy League

Come springtime, the Queens based pro soccer team will join the newly formed USL League. Just today, the USL made it known this new endeavor would kickoff with the goal of developing local players for their Senior Teams with top competition, and youth development, most are lower priced, the Queensboro one is to be fully funded. There will be 7 divisions, this team will be in the Northeast Div. with another dozen teams.

NWSL Enters Last Day

The top women's league on the planet is winding down, today. They have a pair of good games on tap as Orlando and the Courage meet up, should the charges of Paul Riley win, it will be 3rd place for the Verizon Community Shield. Their taking the 3 spot has their community partner gain $10,000, while there will be a halftime presentation to the Thorns, the team of Garden City's Emily Menges as they get the Shield from Commish. Lisa Baird that brings $25,000 to their community partner.

Mukhtar of Nashville Voted Best of the Week

The midfielder of the first year team has been voted as the MLS Player of the Week on the strength of his brace leading his team over the Dynamo 3-1 away on Wed., his first dual goal game. On the year, he now has a trio of both goals and assists, his team now sits at 8th in the East with 21 points. 

His first goal came at 15' from an assist by Danladi, he beat a defender in the box and his shot went from his right foot to the left post to the netting.

'Caps make a deal with LAFC

Vancouver will get a first round pick in the 2023 draft from LAFC for a 2023 International spot. Although it will take some time to get a return on this, with so little time left in the year it will prove to be a great deal, maybe packaged with their natural pick for a higher spot in the draft?  The Whitecaps still have one empty international spot left for the current season.

Red Bulls Hope to gore OCSC

NY is now on a 2 game run of no losses with their 24 points they may cut the lead by their opponents by almost half with a win this weekend.
