Jerry Yeagley Award to Union's Raymon Gaddis

By Sean McCaffery, December 10, 2020

United Soccer Coaches made it known that defender, Raymon Gaddis has been named as the recipient of this year's Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Personal Achievement, this is to be awarded on Jan. 16 during the USC convention.

Each year this honor is bestowed upon an ex-NCAA athlete for doing things above and beyond service to the game at large. It is named after the US Soccer legend, who ruled the game with the IU Hoosiers for many decades. We have been honored to have known him since 1985 or so.

A Chat with Andres Flores

By Sean McCaffery, December 9, 2020

Andes and the El Salvador Federation were kind enough to give us a few minutes of his time and we greatly appreciate that. He reached out from Florida where he and fellow St. John's Men's Soccer alum Pablo Punyed will take on the USMNT with local player Kyle Duncan and his Red Bull teammate Aaron Long tonight at 7:30 on TUDN, UniMas & ESPN News.

Less 24 Hours from the Kick with USMNT, El Salvador has a + Covid Test

By Sean McCaffery, December 9, 2020

Thankfully, it is but one player, sadly there is one player, luckily others are not deemed to of had enough of a contact with him to be affected, no mention of a re-test for the rest of their group prior to the game tonight. Watch them at 7:30 on TUDN, ESPN News & UniMas.

He is now isolated and going through the proper steps.  All pre-arrival tests he took were of course negative, this last test was with the US Soccer arrival testing system, hoping it was a false positive.

MLS & Kellogg's Re-Up

By Sean McCaffery, December 5, 2020

A multi -year pact has been set with the large food company and soccer league. This will keep the familiar Cheez-Itz & Pringles ads at the fields and elsewhere in that they remain the official snack with Eggo getting the same role for waffles. Kellogg's continues on as a partner with eMLS.

A quartet from the Academy are Expected to Impact Montreal

By Sean McCaffery, December 5, 2020

No idea of how strong or how good of a trumor it is the that the Monteal Impact will be changing their name, I for one think it is a bad idea, it has been an identity for local soccer for decades and would hurt them.

The four brought up to the first team are Jean-Aniel Assi, Sean Rea, Nathan-Dylan Saliba & Rida Zouhi, they are first time pros all and with deals including a 3 year option. As they are valid now, the 4 are good to go for the CCL game Dec, 15 with Olimpia at 8 p.m. ET in Orlando.

MLS Disciplinary Committee Decision

By Sean McCaffery, November 27, 2020

This was expected, Gallese of OCSC was fined an undisclosed amount, yes the refs did muck this up, but even before that happened, Gallese was red carded and did not leave, in fact he came back on the field. He as many now know had a yellow during the run of the game, received another for moving off his line on a PK facing NYCFC. He did not leave the field, he ran onto it after the field player made the save, and was on camera on at least 2 occasions.

USWNT v Netherlands, 2-0

By Sean McCaffery, November 27, 2020

I would not say this was a much anticipated rematch of the World Cup Final as this has been such an odd year at all levels. It was thought to be a test of where the US team is as they had not played together in so long, while European national teams have been playing. Where the USWNT is, is the same as ever, the best, their GK did not make a save, the opponent did not have a shot, literally and figuratively.
