Whitecaps Ink Big Time Canadian NT Player via Puebla of Liga MX

Yet another team in MLS has set a record this off season in transfer fees paid out as the 'Caps now have invested in Lucas Cavallini with a DP  deal for the next 2 years and 2023 as as option season. Nicknamed El Tanque below are the numbers that show why.

-84 goals in 223 games overall.

-11 goals in 17 games with the full CNT, netting V big rivals Mexico and USA.

-29 goals and 8 assists total with Club Puebla of Liga MX.

-44 goals, 11 assists over 125 games in the Uruguayan Primera Division.

He has enjoyed a lot of success playing in 2 of the most difficult leagues in the Americas, is an important member of Canada's resurgance on the international scene, and now we are happy to welcome him to the Whitecaps."

Still not yet 27, he spent the last 2.5 years in Mexico with as listed above great #'s. Before Mexico , he was off to Uruguaya and the academy of Club Nacional de Football, a top club there,  after his 2009 start date there he was in the first team with a contract in 2012. He had time with 4 top teams there, Club Atletico Juventud, CA Fenix & CA Penarol.

Internationally, his goals came in many games, including those he struck in the 2017 & '19 Gold Cups. 2019 was a banner year with 8 goals in 7 games, a pair at BC Palace facing French Guiana during Concacaf Nations League Qualfiers. Facing Mexico during the Gold Cup he had one as well as in facing the US in the Concacaf Nations League. Out of Mississauga ON, he was with the U-20 & U-23's for Canada.

Coach Marc Dos Santos informed "We've been looking for a forward with the characteristics of Lucas. Lucas is committed when the team doesn't have the ball, and at the same time he's very hungry to get in the box and make a difference in the attacking half. He has the right mentality and qualities on and off the pitch. Lucas will bring a lot to our team and are very happy to have him join our club."
