Whitecaps get a Young DP from Uruguay

Joaquin Ardaiz is now in the fold at Vancouver as the 20 year old striker has been aquired on a one year loan with an option to purchase out of Swiss Super League team FC Chiasso, he will of course take up an international spot. He is already experienced in the higher levels of soccer in his native country, Belgium & Italy. 'Caps HC, Marc Dos Santos had this to say of the youngster, " Joaquin is a young striker with a very high cieling. He's at the early stages of his career. We believe in his ability." He had been with the Uruguay national teams at the U-15 & U-20  levels as the played in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, won the 2017 South American U-20 title with a pair of goals to take the crown. He was up for the Tuttosport 2018 Golden Boy award as the best U-21 player in Europe, based on his 5 goals at 18 years old for Antwerp in Blegium. Joaquin is coming off a limited trade to Frosinone Calcio with a game facing Lazio then recalled later that same month.  He left his nation at 18 to go to Antwerp at 6'1" already a well known player. While in Belgium, he struck for his 5 goals in 21 games, 13 were starts over league, UEFA Europa League playoffs and a pair of games in the Belgium Cup. After the 2017 season he was listed as #36 on Goal.com's NxGn's top 50 teenagers in the world. He is a product of the well known academy of Danubio who also developed Edinson Cavani of the national team. In Feb. of 2016, he made his pro team debut at just 17  and this player out of Salto then went on to 29 games in the Primera Div. netting a quartet of goals.
