Merci,

Merci, Ligue 1

BEST OF ROUND 4

The eyes of the football world were on Ligue 1 Uber Eats as Lionel Messi finally made his debut helping PSG remain clear at the top, whilst Angers and Nice continued their good start. Monaco Lyon and LOSC finally found their groove and with a total of 31 goals across the weekend, France's top flight continues to shine.

Mbappé steals the show

Kylian Mbappé’s excellent double was enough to see off Reims 2-0 to share the headlines with Lionel Messi who made his debut at the Stade Auguste Delaune.

Messi was named as a substitute as he works his way back to full fitness and watched on as Mbappé headed the leaders in front from a pinpoint Angel Di Maria cross (16').

Mbappé, the subject of heavy speculation regarding his future, added a second from close range (63') to finish the contest before Messi made his grand entrance replacing Neymar with 25 minutes left to play.

Lyon off the mark

Lyon coach Peter Bosz could finally afford a smile after seeing his side bag their first three points of the season, beating Nantes 1-0 at La Beaujoire.
Moussa Dembélé’s close range finish ten minutes before the break was enough to seal victory but OL owed a debt of gratitude to goalkeeper Anthony Lopes who kept Nantes at bay with a string of fine saves.

"I’m very happy with this win," said a relieved Bosz after overseeing his first victory. "It wasn’t easy but I don't care, getting three points is all that counts and this will do wonders for our confidence after a difficult first three matches."

New signings lift OM

Marseille bounced back from last week's abandonment against OGC Nice to dispose of Saint Etienne 3-1 at a vociferous Orange Vélodrome on Saturday night.

Marseille’s goals came from their new summer recruits with Matteo Guendouzi, in particular, putting in his finest display since his summer arrival. Guendouzi's smart finish broke the deadlock (23’) but Timothée Kolodziejczek headed Les Verts level 13 minutes before the break.

Kovac: 'Win is good for mental strength'

Sofiane Diop's two goals for Monaco (40' and 58') either side of Ruben Aguliar's own-goal to equalise for Troyes (51'), gave the principality side their first win of the season.

Monaco coach Niko Kovac admitted he was "very happy" with his side's 2-1 win at Troyes and singled out striker Wissam Ben Yedder for praise.

Christophe Galtier steered his OGC Nice side to their second 4-0 win of the season after sweeping aside Bordeaux at the Allianz Riviera.

Les Aiglons, yet to concede so far this season, were in cruise control from the start and opened the scoring through Justin Kluivert (7’). In-form striker Amine Gouiri added two more (33 and 42), before Khéphren Thuram completed the rout five minutes from time.

“I am very satisfied with the result," said Galtier who sees his side move up to fourth place on the table. "We had to find our depth very quickly and we took advantage of what opportunities we had. But there is still a lot of work to do to ensure this team improves."
