There were a pair of recent incidents in the just completed Leagues Cup, both involving Miami that have given me cause for concern as to their rules, NOT the Laws of the Game. Their coach was dismissed from a game, went to the stands, as he may yet it seemed he was on the phone with staff. It was mentioned by others, attibuted to the Cup, that was an allowable action. More recent and worse was the Battle Royale following the final. Nothing has come out on it as yet. In being a former ref, this is rather concerning, the punishments should have been swift and strong. I have reached out twice for their Rules of Competition, not even a reply, this in advance of the final. In being a retired police officer, obstructing breathing, such as the numerous headlolks are crimes in certain just jurisdictions, spitting assault in the 2nd degree, a felony, if 3 at one time had gone after a player, 2 did again a charge of Gamg assault, thespitingincident depending the age of the Seattle staffer, elder abluse. Such charges are rarely levied.
Though a tourney with MLS teams, it was not an MLS tourney, the same holds for the fact that it was a final with teams from that same league. In a recent State Soccer Assoc. meeting I was fortunate to attend, this very thng was discussed. Most leagues do not honor such suspensions as it was not their game. Exceptions being made for serious violent conduct and referee abuse. There was plenty of the former. Many are puting out that it is upon the league to take action, yet they have not been able when asked for the why of said statement when asked. Below is a chart put out by the Cup of past actions taken from misdeeds, eclipsed by the actions folloing the final for certain.
