Gotham is well represented in the spine of the USWNT William, Lavelle, from Sleepy Hollow Coffey & Sonnett starting while the Lionesses, though now without St John’s Rachel Daly do start the Gotham defender Carter. Emma Hayes comes home, Fox of the USWNT plays in England and of course the tremendous GK, Naeher is on her farewell tour, early in the coming week, she steps away from the international game at the top! Though a friendly, this game will be anything but that as the #’s 1 & 2 teams in the world bang heads, hopefully not literally, winner takes the top going into the new year, should be very interesting. Such a large crowd, 85k expected to be in the house.

England go long off the kick get it into the 6 where the GK grabs it. Horan may have slipped or been thrown to the ground, no replay and the talking head gets into the history of the ref? Emily for Rose outside to Sears who gives to Emma Thompson forcing Earps into a great save and corner. The corner into the area then wide for a goal kick. Great chance by the US, pleased at the fast first time shot. Fox links up with Lavelle again to Sears, she goes back then it is lost and England plays it back, Horan harasses her and gets whistled for it. Girma, gets beaten recovers plays it out of touch very deep in her defensive end. Horan now down, remains down, Carter gets her first call, England plays it out to boos as Horan remains down after being stepped on, probably not injured, but that hurts big time. Alyssa Thompson catches up and takes it away. Seems as if neither team wants the ball as they keep giving it away. Horan leads Williams, her club teammate, Carter plays it out. Sears goes end line suffers a bump, off her ankle, no call, goal kick. Kruger with a tackle on the target and in gets forward, played over the end line by Bronze, US corner just beyond the 6, played out by England, Fox with a sly move beats her mark, back in the area and a foul on the US. Alyssa winds up with it, Coffey tried for Horan over the top, played out, a player down Williams wins the challenge at midfield. Sears is getting plenty of the ball, this one intended for her lost. Lavelle from Horan at the end line pulls it back to Fox into the area and out for a US throw, how long can England take this pressure. Caution as Coffey drops Russo, grabbing at the shirt. A battle of the Gooners with Fox marking Mead who goes back with it, leads to a long, wide shot. Long free kick by England is just wide at the far post, a bit ahead of their attacking player. Lavelle held a bit gets through it looking for Horan finds a white shirt. US a few passes just beyond the area near the end line, can’t get the ball in, wind up with it in their defensive third then an errant pass leads to an England throw, very deep. Carter goes inside finds Bronze she goes to Mead, too far as Fox takes it. Coffey with Alyssa Thompson open then a foul on Thompson by Walsh and DFK for US from over 40 yards. Rose to put it in play, over the top to Girma, falling goes into the 6, played out for a US throw. England giving decent pressure the US just finding the open player with no issues. Alyssa on the receiving end of long ball it’s in the 6 knocked away, Horan called in the area for a foul. Krueger with a great shot saved, the rebound to Williams and then the foul. England holding well, getting nowhere with it as it is back again to the GK. Horan steals for Williams, Horan rocked as she releases the ball, no call. Sonnett has it for Girma now for Kruger getting forward, drops for Lavelle, over the top for Williams with Sears shielding it, she wins a deep throw. Fox putting it back in play, Lavelle opens up for her, she gets it back, goes back to Sonnett now Fox for Sears again and no foul on Carter but a US goal kick, no foul there as Sears went into the Gotham backline player then she went down, talking heads saw a foul? Sears from Fox her ball in on the ground played out, then deep into the US defensive end for Girma. Fox gets forward at the bottom of the circle, drops it a good 20 yards, back to Fox, she has a throw in. Lavelle drops for Krueger then to Coffey, give and go with Thompson lost, back to Naeher. Lavelle with a spin taken down DFK. Carter gives up a deep throw. Coffey with a shot as she drifts from goal, right at Earps. Coffey over the ball some 30+ seconds of the one minute of extra time, her kick over and out for a goal kick and the halftime whistle.
England must get forward, if the US keep up as they have been, they will get at least one. For the US, they must finish the chances they have gotten and keep holding the ball as they are getting it forward. |
Sears is out for Gotham’s Ryan. Mead fouls Fox she holds her knee a bit, the kick to be taken from 40 yards by Coffey. Seeking Girma or Williams cleared out a bit, the US recover it. Ryan for Lavelle out of the air, Horan sends it home, highlight stuff but offside. Rose to Horan doubled out to Ryan, Earps gets a mitt on it and US recover it now Fox gets on her horse losing the ball. Ryan for Lavelle after the pass was stolen, Ryan takes on Greenwood, then drops for Fox, Thompson can’t get it and as they approach the midfield lose it out of touch. Sonnet for Williams across to Alyssa it is lost, recovered twice over and Bronze tackles from Alyssa. Sonnet over the top for Ryan to Horan, just wide. Whether Horan shot or crossed that ball, it went right through the 6 box, no supposed to happen. Ryan defended and it is over the end line, Ryan should have shot this from about 10 yards out. Rose over the corner, high arcing to Horan, headed out, goal kick. Parks gets it twice in dangerous positions and the US comes up on defense giving a corner. Mead over the ball, weak header to Naeher. Russo gets in front of the GK, they tangle Naeher goes down, no card? England keeping it in the US end in the opening minutes of the 2nd stanza. A clearing ball stolen, shot, deflected by Sonnett, corner coming. Big momentum shift in the early goings here. Park loses it, England regains it, another clear by the US off the US, now well into the England defensive third as Earps comes out of her area to get it up. Great one touch play by England gets it to the wing inside it goes then out again now too many passes as the US can’t mark those just beyond the area. Another ball in cleared out by Girma. US pressure causes a poor pass US throw, then it’s out of play goal kick England. Williams for Ryan, the teammate gets off a shot, handball on England, her hands were hardly at her side but well off her body. VAR will check the Greenwood handball, they were behind her then not, as she pulled it back it, hitting her hand off her chest so it will be interesting. The center is now at the screen. As it came off the chest it is not a PK. Horan is getting knocked down still but no persistent infringement call made. Shaw and Albert are said to be entering soon. Great team play gets it forward for the US as the pass in for Williams is knocked away. Out go Williams for Shaw and Alyssa Thompson for Albert. Ryan goes down from contact, England throw. Kelly in for Naz and Park gives way to Kirby for England. Kirby for Mead, her go on goal a bit too far for Russo. Ryan wins a tackle, runs it down, into the area into the 6, cleared out, a throw in near the corner flag. Shaw with a great pass to Lavelle, Rose just cannot get around it enough. England presses, Coffey breaks the press to Lavelle then Shaw who wins a corner at 80’. Carter partially clears, Shaw sends it to the penalty area then cleared for a corner. Albert beats two finds Shaw it’s toward goal Rose gets it put over the end line, corner. Coffer taking the 4th US corner, direct in not lofted to the side of the 6 at the post headed out for a throw. Sonnett gives up a throw facing Bronze. Ryan runs down a short pass, beats a tackle to Ryan and her effort to goal is grabbed up by Earps, just before her target comes into frame. The US has it near the area balls in keep getting sent out then one into the 6 has half a dozen white shirts, not one blue around it. Horan out Sentnor in, her first game for the USA. Just over 2’ in regular time, who wants it more? England has a corner as it shows 4’ of added time. Kelly rocks Krueger on the touchline earning a caution. It was a no goal show today.
