USSF Repeals Policy 604-1

By Sean McCaffery, June 11, 2020

This policy read that all players are to stand for the national anthem, as a player had been kneeling in support of LGBTQ rights, an action she co opted from an NFL player protesting the treament of minorities by the police. Having been a member of the NYPD for over 20 years I may have a bias on this. The thing about the NFL protest is that we do not have a national police force. Tuesday, this was voted by the US Soccer Board of Directors, they have a meeting this weekend.

To me, this whole thing rings hollow, they instiuted the policy for one using the same form of protest as a different person for a whole other issue. Yet in this statment of theirs, they do not address their player's concern but that of minorities which is a whole different ball of wax. All but a dozen times they reference minorites, color, injustice etc, not once touching upon the LGBTQ issues that were being protested within their WNT.

I am against it, I am for the right of those to protest, not riot and loot. I feel it is worse yet as we are at war, and just as they may protest within accepted boundaries, I too am able to protest that and be against it.
