We’re into the final month of the USL Super League’s inaugural season, and the race for the postseason could hardly be tighter.

• While Carolina Ascent has locked up its spot – and is closing in on the Players’ Shield for the best regular season record – there are still five teams alive for the remaining three postseason berths.
• On the rise have been the Tampa Bay Sun – 4-1-1 in their last six to move into third – and Spokane Zephyr FC – 7-1-1 over its last nine outings – to move above the playoff line. They’ve joined second-placed Dallas Trinity FC as favorites to earn a postseason berth.
• Brooklyn FC (1-3-1 in its last five) and Fort Lauderdale United FC (0-3-2 in its last five) are now on the outside, but still in with a chance. The key game this weekend has Brooklyn hosting Spokane on Saturday evening, with kickoff at 6 p.m. ET on Peacock. Make sure to tune in.

Inside Rhode Island FC’s Magnificent New Home

Rhode Island FC officially opened Centreville Bank Stadium last Saturday, and it made an immediate impression.

• A standing-room-only sellout crowd of 10,700 fans was on hand for its inaugural game against San Antonio FC and the club wowed them with an atmosphere that went into making for an ultimate gameday experience.
• The venue is the latest club-owned soccer-specific venue to open in the USL Championship and League One. It’s a crucial element to the long-term vision of the league and its clubs.
• The weekend was a major one for soccer in New England. On Sunday evening, first-year USL League One club Portland Hearts of Pine hosted its inaugural home opener, welcoming a rapt sellout crowd of almost 6,000 fans to Fitzpatrick Stadium.

AROUND THE LEAGUES

Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC is the last lower-division club standing in the 2025 U.S. Open Cup after defeating MLS’s New York City FC at Highmark Stadium on Wednesday night.

Detroit City FC’s Darren Smith was voted Championship Player of the Month for April, while Loudoun United’s Ryan Martin took Coach of the Month honors.

Spokane Velocity FC’s Anuar Peláez was voted League One Player of the Month for April, while One Knoxville SC’s Ian Fuller took Coach of the Month honors.

The USL W League and League Two Seasons are Underway

May is here, and that means the 2025 USL W League and League Two seasons are underway!

• Both leagues had a limited opening last weekend, kicking off the summer season that’s set to feature some of the top players in the pre-professional ranks before most return to campus for their college seasons in the fall.

• With 144 teams competing in USL League Two and 93 teams in the W League, there’s likely to be a team in your area you can go and check out.

While they’re pre-professional, the W League and League Two annually feature future professionals, and even those who’ll go on to the highest levels – think USMNT players like Patrick Agyemang (Western Mass Pioneers) or Patrick Schulte (St. Louis Scott Gallagher) or USWNT players like Emily Sams (Racing Louisville).
