U-20 USWNT Looks to go Undefeated and Unscored Upon

By Sean McCaffery, February 25, 2020

Even without the #1 pick in the NWSL draft, Sophia Smith seeing a second of playing time, this team looks to  be a lock to run the table in group play as it is over Wed., the 6p.m. ET kick with Honduras will tell the tale. With a 9-0 drubbing of Cuba and a lopsided 4-0 win over the Dominican Republic yesterday, they are well poised to take the top spot as the next opponent has been outscored 13-1 thus far. The US is already through to the knockout stage, so look for many new faces on the field tomorrow, a win tomorrow gives them the highest finish in the group. We will be at another Concacaf event, the CCL in RBA with NYCFC.

Team's history:

-1 previous game a 7-0 win by the US in these games in 2015 as Mallory Pugh hit a brace.

-8th ranked was this Honduras team entering the tourney.

-5 Honduras players are born in 2000, 5 in 2001, 3 in '03 and finally 4 in 2004, the '03 & 04's are age eligible for the 2020 U-17 Concacaf Championship.

-20, yes all Honduran players, ply there trade in their home nation, 6 from CD Marathon.

Last time out for the USWNT, was very different from the 9-0 Cuba game, though they still scored early, ahead by 3 in less than the first dozen minutes, 2 by the scoring machine that is Mia Fishel bringing her total to 6 Rebecca Jarrett got her first score for the team as Brianna Pinto hit for her 3rd in the 4-0 victory.

Honduras is playing a very young roster as fully half of them are still age eligible for thses same games next year. Going up against the host nation of Dominica Republic, they lost 7-0, they gave up one less and got one back as Maylin Menjivar scored v Cuba but it was still a 6-1 loss.
