Cathya Suckle
Cathya Suckle (nee Espinoza), has been a vital and passionate member of the Eastern New York State Soccer Association (ENYSSA) for the past 25+ years. Her journey in ENYSSA soccer began with her playing for Vendaval SC in the Spanish Women's League from 1988 to 1990. Cathya's skill and leadership on the field led her team to victory in the ENYSSA State Cup in 1996 and 1997. She also showcased her talents internationally, playing in Ecuador in 2001 and 2006, where she was honored with the Key to the City of Duran by the mayor.
Cathya has managed women's soccer teams in the New York Metropolitan Women's Soccer League (NYMWSL), Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), and Long Island Women’s Soccer League (LIWSL) since the late 1990s. Her dual role as a player and team manager in the WPSL in 2003, and her participation in numerous LIWSL tournaments between 2007 and 2013, highlight her extensive involvement and influence in the sport.
Beyond her playing and managing career, Cathya has made significant contributions to the administration of soccer. Since 2002, she has served as an ENYSSA Board as a Trustee and has been an active member of various committees, including the Women's Cup Committee and the Appeals Committee. Her leadership roles in the NYMWSL have been as Referee Commissioner and Games Commissioner further exemplify her dedication to the sport's administration.
Cathya's efforts and commitment have been recognized through numerous awards and honors. Her contributions have not only promoted the growth of women's soccer but have also inspired countless individuals to pursue their passion for the sport. Her involvement with the ENYSSA Board Committees and her roles in the NYMWSL has left a lasting impact on the soccer community.
