Sporting KC Keeping Pace with neighboring Chiefs, they top the Table

By Sean McCaffery, September 1, 2020

In little more than 24 hours, the Peter Vermes led squad will take on FC Dallas. Both teams have been in MLS since the word go, both under different monikers. try on Wizards and Burn, yeah, I woulda' changed also.

SKC comes in off an away tie with the Rapids 1-1 but their 16 points are well ahead of those 9 that Dallas now have.

With the Unified Government of Wyandotte County @ KC KS, there will be many precatutions in place as they will go with a 14% or so seating capacity. Only season ticket holders are in the lottery to gain access.

Both teams did play of late with the home side overcoming a 1-0 scoreline by way of a teenager, Busio and his 67' stunner, he also chipped in 5 successful tackles, 7 winning duels and connecting on 27 of his 31 passes, heady numbers indeed. Lately, the gaffer, Vermes, has been looking to the Homegrowns to get it done and 5 of them have been up to the challange as he, Lindsey, Salloi, Duke & Hernandez have gotten time.

FC Dallas feasted on some home cooking as they stopped a 4 game winless run, in taking the Loons 3-1, hitting 2x in the first 12'. From a bit upstate NY, USNT player Fafa Picault and the 19 year old Ferreira hit as Ziegler closed out the scoring in extra time.

SKC is tearing it up with 18 goals while Dallas sports one of the top defenses, our friend, former Cosmos 'keeper Jimmy Mauer has 4 straight starts and has only given up a pair of goals, while his 19 saves, almost 5 a game is a bit high, but overall, the GAA is a paltry .67, reflective of the 4 goas relented over 6 games. Their defense does not end where the field does as Ziegler and Hedges are the base, also on the attack is Ondrasek as Barios has 5 goals with 4 assists facing KC in 12 regualr season games.

KC has a bit of a balanced attack with 9 players having netted so far, Kinda leads with a quartet of goals and 2 new players in Pulido and the returning ex-NYCFC player Shelton have each gotten 3. Ondrasek on Dallas has a pair but none since the stoppage of play in March.

The depth of KC is being put to the test tomorrow as Kinda is out on a red card, Espinoza injured , Sanchez out on personal matters and of course Guiterrez is lost for the year. Might they field an all home grown midfield of Busio, Duke & Hernandez?

These two have played to a draw witha 25-25-12 record, but SKC are a strong 8-2-2 at home over the last dozen games. 2019 saw Dallas take both games , but that was coming off a 10 game winless skid from 2012-'18, that ship was righted with 3-2 & 2-0 wins.
