Sporting KC go Young with Harris

By Sean McCaffery, October 21, 2020

No longer a retirement league with all these 20 somethings and teenagers in the MLS, Wilson Harris has inked his deal with SKC. The lucky 13th player out of their Academy, the Homegrown striker is with the team including options through the 2023 season. With SKC II he has 23 goals since 2018, making him the youngest player in the USL Championship to net more than 20.

SKCII had their year come to an end on Oct.3 , he then followed the protocols ahead of joining the first team, the first game he may see is Sat. 7:30 p.m. CT with the Rapids at home. He had been called up before in May 18, 2019 on a short term deal dressing, but not seeing the field.

His trio of seasons with SKCII had him start 39 of his 56 games with .64 goals per 90'. His just completed 2020 season was great with a team tops 8 goals for coach and EX-SKC midfielder, Paulo Magamura. He had time in all of the games in the shortened 16 match season, hitting for a brace Aug 22 in a 3-0 home win over OKC Energy FC and goals in big away wins at Louisville, Tulsa & Indy.

2019 saw him as the #1 goal getting teenager in USA soccer with 12 over his 25 games, this was achieved with 10 goals in the last 11 games, tying the USL season record as a teenager.

Wilson arrived at the Academy in 2017, signed his first pro deal and finished that year with a trio of goals over 15 matches, almost half, 7 were starts. How well balanced of a player is he?, of his 23 goals in the USL Championship, 11 came off his left foot, 8 his right and 4 on headers.

Out of LA, CA, he did well with the Sounders and Real SoCal academies prior to SKC. His 2017-'18 Academy season had him top the U-19's with his 18 goals over 17 games.

Internationally, he has been with the USNT at the U-15, 16, 18 & 20 levels. While with the U-15's he reached the 5th place in the Nordic Open Cup in Sweden for 2015. The U-20's  saw him go to Honduras for friendlies in May of 2018.

The first team now features 8 from the Academy, Salloi, Busio, Lindsey, Kuzain, Freeman, Duke, & Hernandez.
