Sporting KC add Felipe Gutierrez , Chilean Int'l and DP

KC inked the 27 year old midfielder, announced today. He has a 3 year deal with an option for 2021, taking up an internatoonal slot as all gets cleared. Coach Vermes is happy to add this player as he is battle tested in high level competitions. With 35 caps to his credit he has been to the top of the mountain, the 2014 World Cup and helping Chile take the 2015 Copa America title.

On the club side of his career he has allmost 250 matches between Chile, Holland & Spain. He began with Everton de Vina del Mar in 2004 then off to 12 chilean Primera Division champs, CD Univesidad Catolica in 2009 while still just 18. 2001 was a banner year with 10 goals in the top level in Chile as his team took the first place position into the Copa Chile and won it. 2012 saw him with the same team and team leader with 7 goals across 16 matches, then off to FC Twente  for the 2012-13 season in Holland. Debuting in a UEFA league qualifier one of nine on the year. Second season he started 33 league games named the Eredivisie MVP in leading the Tukkers to 3rd place. Out most of 2014-15 injured he came back full force with 27 out of 30 starts. On to Spain and La Liga club Real Betis, with his first goal in stoppage time a winner versus Osasuna in Oct., but spent most of the 2017 season in Brazil with Internacional. There he was key to their promotion to Serie A.

Back to national team time, his first call up was May 2010 in a win with Northern Ireland, 2011 had him on the team for Copa America but not to play. 2014 World Cup preperations had him back again for World Cup qualifying netting one against Argentina that earned him a spot on the team. Getting time in the four games Chile got out of the group stage dropping in the Round of 16 to host Brazil on pks. Eight games for the 2018 World Cup had another goal against Argentina and another spot for the 2017 FIFA Conferdations Cup in Russia.
