#SoccerFilmFriday Selection

By Sean McCaffery, May 29, 2020

The Kicking & Screening Soccer FIlm Festival has made their latest selection for this evening and it is, After the Cup:Sons of Sakhnin United, by Roger Bennett from Men in Blazers. This fine film descirbes Israeli soccer team B'nei Sakhnin and how their taking the Israeli Cup one year brought so many together.

This moved Shimon Peres then Israel president to state "Sakhnin changed the relationship between Jews and Arabs in Israel."

A bit on the film, Is soccer able to offer the unique ray of hope to this historic struggle in the Mid East? Sakhnin is in northern Israel but far more populated by Arabs, and the team is made of both groups. It all falls into place despite this and they take the Cup. This brings a great deal of attention to the team and Abbas Suan, now asked to play for the Israeli MNT. It is a tale of what occurs as a feel-good story and its hero are now in the public eye and and the hopes for both that exceed the playing field.

First shown at the 2010 K&S Soccer Film Festival in DC, there was also the initial soccer poetry reading, they are looking at doing one virtually now, please email them if you are interested, please reach out via Facebook, Twitter or email info@kickingandscreening.com.
