The #SoccerFilmFriday pick of the week, American Futbol

By Sean McCaffery, May 25, 2020

Those folks at the Kicking and Screening Soccer Film Festival have once again made their weekly choice and it is a great one. We were lucky enough to be present when they viewed this and as stated it brought down the house of closing night a few years ago.

This flick features a quartet of friends over four months and futbol, South American style. LIke the K & S Team stated, they did what at this time we cannot, took a glorious, free flowing soccer adventure through Latin America. Directors Peter Karl & Petar Madjarac told a great tale. They traversed 7,000 miles, 8 nations to find one goal, the soul of futbol. Given few things such as food and music, so to is soccer a universal language. They spoke it with great ease as they went about their travels, through Mexico, Colombia & Brazil, they brought us along for their stories and passion surrounding the beautiful game.

Madjarac stated "Soccer was out passport on this journey. It helped us cross the US/Mexico border, bonded us to a team once run by a Colombian drug cartel; introduced us to a blind soccer team in Bogota and explained how soccer impacts racism in Ecuador. This was the trip of a lifetime, and it showed us-and hopefully the viewers will see this-the power of soccer to be more than just a game."

You may see this great movie on Tubi, You Tube, Amazon Prime or Google Play.
