Sky Blue will play at RBA

By Sean McCaffery, November 18, 2019

Following the 2 well attended, yes we also went to these games at RBA, Sky Blue is making a great move, a game changer, for the team to play their 2020 home games there. Marc de Grandpre, RBNY GM stated "We are pleased to welcome Sky Blue back to Red Bull Arena after 2 successful events in 2019.  The team departs the way off the beaten path Yucak FIeld on Rutgers Piscataway campus, for the SSS that Red Bull Arena is, a top notch place. home to many international matches including tomorrow evening. Tammy Murphy, Sky Blue owner rep. and the spouse to one, the Govenor of NJ, informed "We're thrilled to partner with Sky Blue. Last season demonstrated that we are ready to take our players and fans to the next level."  RBA is thought by many to be the standard bearer of soccer specific stadiums in North America, now 11 years young, it has been home to marquee match ups including an MLS All-Star Game, Chelsea, Man City, Club AMerican Real Madrid. In recent years we have attended games with Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru, AC MIlan. El Salvador, Fiornetina, Haiti, USMNT, USWNT oh so many notable games. "Best Fan Experience" a JD Power award has been bestowed upon NYRB a& their home 2 years running for the NY area and many more allocades from the Sports Turf Managers Assoc. for it exquisite real field. From seating just off the playing surface to  to the partial roof that affords fans protection from the element (not photographers as my skin will attest), doubling as a way to keep the noise in, this venue is literally across the parking from the newly refurbished PATH station which players and their parents have been wont to use, as well as a quick 15 minute walk from Penn Station NJ, just 2 stops outside of NY Penn, why drive? Alyse LaHue, Sky Blue GM contributed "After our players and fans experienced Red Bull Arena in 2019, we knew it was the perfect venue to host Sky Blue. The move to Red Bull Arena builds upon the posititve momentum we gained last season and will help our club and the league to the next level. "This and better living conditions for the players should put an immediate halt to players stating they will not play for the team if drafted, and should now be a draw for players.

We attended both NWSL games here, it was amazing. The fans reactions were terrific, the players especially those who had played with their national teams were very pleased to be there on both teams. I feel as I come from well into Suffolk County and more than a few NWSL players being from Long Island, this is a big time move by the team, adding thousands of fans a game and being a rebirth of sorts for the team. I for one will now be hard pressed to pass on attending any games. My ties to the women's game are very long, decades ago I coached in the Long Island Ladies Soccer League while in high school, at the same time did camps with Tony DiCicco and many other connections. Many of USWNT players over the years have hailed from LI and are enshrined in the Long Island Soccer Player Halll of Fame. It makes me very happy to not have to make an excursion to get to these best in the world games in women's soccer where fully ALL members of the USWNT, World Cup winners again play. The on & off again rumors of RBNY acquiring Sky Blue have yet to reignited on this hours old news, great news indeed.
