Sapong & Schweinsteifer Take Fire Awards

For both the season is over, for one so to is his career, in this last year of play Sebastian Schweinsteiger took the award as the Defensive Player of the Year for the Chicago Fire with the MVP/Golden Boot going to CJ Sapong as a first year player with the team due to his bakers dozen of goals. CJ arrived Feb 23, making an instant impact as he netted in the first pair of games on the new season, from Manassas, VA, CJ, had 2 assists to go with a trio of GWGs from 23 chances, oddly, he is the 8th player to be tops on the team in goals in their inagural year. No slouch on the defensive end of the field, he had the most duels with 225, winning 138 in the air, and his durability was illustrated via his 32 games, 29 as a starter good for #2 on the team. As for Basti, it was his 2nd straight such award in heading the defense, he had 124 duels leading the team with 35 tackles won, matching CJ with assists. Basti had 18 chances and a GWG, the 2,,254 touches were good for #2 on the Fire.
