New faces all over the field, same result as the last game, a 1-0 victory, the big difference here is NYRB now is all alone atop the MLS, if the season were to end today, they would be the Supporters Shield winners yet again. WIth just 7 games left, and in a stretch of over 2 weeks long with a game every 3 days, did they ever deliver. It is sad that almost 10,000 seats remained empty on a late sumer night game. With the rest of the home games being on weekends I hope that tide is turned. The lineup was certainly cause for concern, but that it seems only for those outside of the organization as those on the field seemed very comfortable as did their Long Islander coach, Chris Armas. With names like Escobar, Casseres, Ivan & the goal getter, White it seemed each position had a newer player plugged in and they powered the team to victory. These players afforded a great deal of rest for the typical starters as they are next off to Montreal on Saturday.
The numbers from the game have a bit of a contradiction in them as 10 shots is a good amount to have only 1 offside call and 4 corners is fair, the saves considering the new players being just 3 is the best of numbers other than the final score of 1-0. This last set of numbers has NYRB unbeaten in their last 6 games, 4-0-2, their longest such run thus far this year. This blank sheet of theirs is their 17th MLS win, 1 shy of their 2015 record, with 7 games yet to play the should shatter it. They have achived a 3rd unbeaten Aug. in team history. Along with Ben MInes also this season, White is now only the 2nd RBNYII player to get a goal in his first MLS start. Robles and company achived the 10th shutout of the year and the 59th of his career, bringing him to 4 out of his 6 years with the club with at least 10 shutouts. It is now 3x this year NY has achived back to back blankings of their oponents amd Robles now has 96 wins in the regular season of MLS. Alex Muyl with his endline assist now has 3 on the season and 5 game winners overall.
