Red Bulls host Atlanta in East. Conf. Leg 2 Thurs. Eve

By Sean McCaffery, November 27, 2018

Needing to win by 4 overall, whether it be in regular time, overtime or pk's, it is do or die. You have the best offense in the MLS coming to town having only beaten their hosts once ever and facing a defense that has allowed less than a goal a game, but it was a resounding loss 3-0 just this past Sunday. In a second game so close to the first, the losing team typically has the advantage and RBA has been a fortress with NYRB outscoring opponents 12-1 over the last dozen home games, this bodes well. The game is presented by Hackensack Meridian Health, kickoff is at 7:30 on FS1, FOX Deportes & NYRB Radio in English & Spanish on TuneIn. As in the series with the Crew, NY finds themselves up against it albeit they were a far weaker side than the United and it was not a 3 goal difference. The Crew series was the first time they had ever advanced after having been down, and they seek to become the first ever MLS team to come back fromĀ  a 3-0 loss. NYRB are riding a wave of half a dozen home shutouts, unlikely facing ATL who just dropped 3 on them and their high octane offense, but 577 minutes is a long time all the way back to Aug. 5, they have 14 of their 20 blank sheets at home. For their part, ATL UTD have only been held scoreless 10 times since they entered the league, with 7 being away and NY has already kept them scorelessĀ  twice. An amazing record of 9-1-0 at home under new HC Armas with a goal diffferential of 22-6 should have them confident, they have not lost back-to-back games under him and the last 7 at home getting 12 and allowing just 1 goal. Whoever prevails in NJ will host the final and the winner of SKC & Timbers.
