I will keep my part brief, as I have no positive take on this game other than I do not recall anyone getting injured. The NYRB were out worked, a rarity and I am sure they heard about it post game and will pay for it next training session. Zardes was not accounted for, there was no fire to their play, poor ball movement, marking was all but non existent. They have not scored since Florian Valot very early in the previous game, NY did not register a single shot on goal, well over 2 hours goal less, if they go much into the first half sans a goal next game, it will be over 3 hours, you cannot win like that. I do not like to write bad things and this will be all. As for what the team sent out.
Kwik Kixx:
- Zardes powered Columbus to the win with his first half goal. Fed a pass from Santos out of hte NYRB defensive part of the field.
- Wed. the last game in Group play has NYRB v FCC, they are tied with points and the NYRB have the edge in goal differential, by 2, a win or tie NY is io to the knockout phase. Catch it on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, TSN & Red Bulls Radio at 8 p.m. ET on July 22.
- Ex-NYB 2nd generation player, Derrick Etiene Jr. had quite the impact, just missing on a goal of his own and assisting on the 2nd by Zelarayam.
Post Game Quotes:
HC Armas: "We knew it'd be a difficult game with an improved Columbus team. We will be back in a few days. I think we let ourselves down, and Columbus is a good team. We'll be better for it, we'll look hard at it and get better as we go. You try to attack with some fresh legs and Columbus did a good job of killing the game off. It seem like a lot of time wasting and all that. We'll have to keep improving. If you talk just about the tournament, we're very much alive."
Captain Sean Davis: "It was a disappointing night, I don't think we had the right energy, we lost our duels and that's the Red Bull way. We didn't meet the demands of the game and we weren't sharp enough in either box. We weren't dangerous enough, they deserve the win tonight and that's something we got to take a hard look at. We have a big game next week. I think our finishing could have been sharper, but at least we putour selves in good spots. We didn't create enough until late in the game. Tonight I think it was more mental than anything. We need every guy to be up for the game.
Brian White: "It's good to get back out there. I just wasn't able to play in the first game, but it was good to get out there and to get 45 minutes. I needed bring another energy, put pressure on the defense and I just didn't do that. We just didn't do enough to create chances and I just have to look at that and at the film and come back for the next game."
