Red Bulls Blow Into Windy City

By Sean McCaffery, October 24, 2020

They have not been to this historic football field in some 15 years but hope to not get burnt by the Fire and climb the ladder in the Eastern Conference, NYRB kicks off at 7:30. Nothing has made since in this year of Covid, so the fact that the visitors have 25% more points, means less than zero as to who will win this game. For NY, it hinges on which of their teams show up, firing on all cylinders or misfiring more often,  they live by the press and tend to die when not pressing. We will watch on MSG at 7:30 p.m. ET it is also Red Bulls Radio and TuneIn in English y Espanol. Steve Cangialosi and the man who gave me my first job in the industry, Long Island Soccer Player Hall of Fame inductee, Shep Messing will also be joined by Michelle Gingras. An hour before, past players Mark Harmon & Steve Jolley get it going on Radio from 6:30., En Espanol con Ernesto Motta comienza a las 7.

Can you believe this will be the 60th game in the regular season between these two clubs, Chicago is well in control of the series, 28-19-12. Since re-branding to Red Bulls, this is the first visit to Solider Field for the team. These as the record would indicate are not friendly confines for the team overall 2-6-2. On the bright or more so frustrating side of the last 14 regular season games, but one game has had more than a one goal difference in the final score. Also that reflects a better record of 5-5-3 during this time span.

Red Bull are doing fairly well on the road with a 3-2-3 record thus far in 2020, good for half their points overall. Those dozen points are the 4th best in MLS and the 8 goals against also tied for 4th. They of late are 3-1-1 away.

I think NY has done well enough on defense, the midfield has struggled and the offense has not helped itself. I am clearly convinced if they took more shots, fewer touches especially in the area it would be a totally different season. Their movement or lack thereof off the ball is apparent and would also open up the game far more. Forget time of possession get the ball forward to the goal. Over these last few games, I would think most are playing for their jobs as the arrival of Stuber looms for next season.
