On the drop-off after conceding...

Yeah, I agree with your assessment. The first half is tight. (FC) Dallas are a team that are organized, athletic, and competitive, so it’s not a game that is going to be wide open. By and large, in the first half we played pretty well. The second half starts a little bit choppy, with fouls and neither team really getting a grip on things. Then obviously we concede the first goal. And at that point, it’s the most obvious thing in the world to say, but goals change games, especially in tight games. From there, the response — our ability to really push the game, to be relentless, to play forward, to make chances and push back into it — that part wasn’t what it needed to be today.

On how aggression comes with risk...

Look, Matty (Dos Santos) was one of the guys who had a good game. On the first goal, he steps up to press, they play backwards, then go long. The issue isn’t him being out of position — we step up, we press, they play out, and then we’re not tight enough. We don’t deal well with the second ball, then they switch the play, and our ability to deal with that advantage wasn’t good enough. So we’ll look closely at ways we can continue to be harder to play against. In a lot of moments, the way we step up and press puts things on our terms. But any team that wants to be aggressive and go after the opponent has to deal with situations behind them. That’s part of it, and it’s something we’ve got to continue to improve.

On the bigger picture for the season...

Look, we are doing everything we possibly can to have a team on the field every week that our fans can be proud of, that they can enjoy watching, and that represents them in a way they connect with. There have been days this year where we’ve done that in a really good way. In this last stretch, it hasn’t been what they want or what we want, so we’re all feeling the same thing. The players are giving everything they have, not just in games but every day in training. We’re using every day to get better, to push the group forward, to make individuals better and the team stronger. Our fans are incredible, and if you want passionate fans, you understand their frustration when things don’t go well. It’s on us to keep working, to keep improving every game. It’s one game at a time — we’re not writing anything off or labeling the season. We’re focused on the next game, getting better, and continuing to push forward. I’m positive that if we do that, we’ll have a lot of good days and good nights.

On the frustration with results despite getting minutes...

Yeah, I mean, the goal is always to play and to win. I’ve been fortunate enough to get a couple games here in the last week or so. But yeah, you know, there’s still disappointment with the results and how we’re losing the games.

On conceding goals and the team’s mentality...

Yeah, I hope not. I mean, we try to encourage these younger guys that even if they think it’s their fault in the moment, mistakes are going to happen. Especially while the game is going on, it’s no one’s place to take blame or to give blame in that moment. It’s our time to find a response and go after them as quick as we can. So I hope that isn’t the mentality we carry or portray. If it is, then I think we can address it and look at how we are in the minutes after we give up goals.

On what went wrong on the first goal...

Yeah, I think they went a little bit more direct. They catch us on a counter in a moment where their numbers outnumber us when we’re sprinting back. They had a couple more guys running forward than we had to deal with, which then leaves (Petar) Musa alone because we have runners coming through and we have to leave him, and obviously he gets a good finish.

On the team…

Well, it’s normal in football when the results do not turn out the way we want them to, that there are difficult moments. That happens in football, but we are improving, we have to keep focusing on the future because these are normal moments that in football. We are going to try to keep improving, giving our best, and keep thinking positively about what is to come.

On his feeling about the games…

Well, we had a lot of games in a short period of time, as you say but that has nothing to do with it. The games went as they went, but we have to keep improving.
