- New York opened the scoring in the 5th minute, when midfielder Rafael Mosquera played a cross onto the top of the box to forward Tanner Rosborough who struck a one-time right-footed shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
- Columbus equalized in the 21st minute. Defender Brent Adu-Gyamfi played a ball to the penalty spot that was placed into the back of the net by midfielder Kevin Gbamble.
- The Red Bulls regained the lead in the 29th minute. Forward Roald Mitchell hopped on a deflected ball and laced a shot into the center of the goal.
