NEW YORK (Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025) – The Independent Review Panel, consisting of one representative from U.S. Soccer, one representative from Canada Soccer, and one independent representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization, has denied the New York Red Bulls’ appeal of the red card issued to defender Kyle Duncan in the 90th minute of New York’s match against Real Salt Lake on Aug. 10. As a result of the denied appeal, Duncan remains ineligible to play in New York’s next regular season match against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Aug. 16 (7:30 p.m. ET, MLS Season Pass on Apple TV) as he serves a one-match suspension for the red card. Each club is entitled to two unsuccessful appeals per season, including the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. Since this is New York’s first unsuccessful appeal, the club has one unsuccessful appeal remaining for any future dismissals in the 2025 season.
Editor's Note: I have no idea of why they contested this. Far more clear in the replay, but his arm was wrapped around the neck of Luna, that is a red card, no ifs, ands or buts about it. I would think it was just due to a very odd positioning it got there, but it was there.
