NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On the preparation ahead of the match against USL side Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC... “Our preparation hasn’t been any different from how we prepare for an MLS game. We take this game just as seriously, and that’s a big part of who we are—our preparation has to be spot on. We also realize this is a big opportunity for them to get momentum in their league and shine in the U.S. Open Cup. But it’s a massive opportunity for us, too. If we do well in the next five games, we can win silverware. We’re ambitious and looking forward to the competition. Regardless of who we face, our approach stays the same.”
On the squad rotation and managing MLS schedule of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup... “I mentioned this after the FC Cincinnati game, we’re playing potentially nine games [this month] That's what we're looking at, and we'll take it game by game. So, FC Cincinnati was finished, then we put our focus on this opponent, and that will be the same after Wednesday night...
We created a solid foundation from day one in our preparation in January [during preseason]. Getting players ready to play three games every seven or eight days is something we work toward daily. But you have to keep in mind that we come back from a game this Sunday, now we travel on Tuesday, and we play again Wednesday night. It's something we are ready to do, but we always have to put a strong side on the pitch, and players need to be available in order to be picked. So, those two things are always the combination I consider as a coach to make the best choices to win the next game.”
