NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
Thoughts on Forward Seymour Reid… “He's [Seymour Reid] in a good place at the moment. He’s training with us on a daily basis, and I’ve seen all his home games with the second team. If I'm not mistaken, he’s scored about 11 goals with the second team, so he’s able to produce goals, and that is the main job for a number nine. He’s still a young kid but plays with a lot of energy. What I like about him is his movement off the ball and how he can set up plays as well. If you look back to the game against Kansas, it took him maybe five or six minutes to adapt to senior play. After the first duel he played in, all the other plays, he put up a good fight to get us forward. I think that’s a huge part of his responsibility as well. If you go back to the game against Orlando, he had a huge opportunity to score the third goal, but he was also there alongside Alonso [Martínez] when Alonso scored the winning goal. So he has to keep up this level and try to improve in order to get more playing time and become more competitive for the number nine position.”
On his experience coaching young players… “I think my experience has taught me to work with any type of player—young, middle-aged, or a little older. As a coach, I learn from these guys every day still, so that's not really an issue. But I think the factor that’s true for all ages is their willingness to be coached, to be open to coaching, and to want to become better than they already are. That’s something I’m always willing to support, and with all my experience, knowledge, and personality, I always hope to help these players move forward.”
NEW YORK CITY FC MIDFIELDER JUSTIN HAAK
On stepping into a leadership role and helping the younger players on the team… “It’s really important for me—especially coming from the Academy—seeing all these guys getting really good opportunities with the First Team and training every day. So, whatever little bits I can help them with, even just talking to them a bit more off-the-field, helping them feel comfortable—I try to do that as much as I can.”
