Official Statement of New York Red Bulls on Jul 21,2020

By Sean McCaffery, July 21, 2020

In light of the continuing Coronavirus crisis, the Governor of the Garden State a co-tenant at RBA with his Sky Blue FC, has assured Executive Order which does not allow for more than 500 to gather for outdoor events, also applies at Red Bull Arena. They comprehend and are behind said decision, arrived at following cautions thought, focused on health and safety guidelines for their followers, athletes & staff.

They ask that all keep up with utilizing each and every needed step and adhere to the lead of public health offficials with utilizing both masks and social distancing with the ever vital hand hygiene.

They will as they have been continue keeping a keen eye on this and pass on futher details as they are known. NYRB thank you for your understanding and paitence during these challanging times. They appreciate you continued support.

I am not partaking in much of anything at this point, in that even my own events have been put off to unknown times into the I hope not distant future, I have slight issues with these decisions. The stadium playing surface is well over an acre, it seats 20,000 or so, it is an outdoor venue. The 500 person by 6' distance brings the area needed for that to be around 30 % of the playing surface alone. Factor in the seating, so each person alone needs 2 empty seats in each direction to maintain the 6' distance more or less, those sheltering together do not need to be distant as they are not otherwise, would allow a great many seats. Tickets are sold as the next best available by most veunues per price point, it cannot be so hard to do that at each section then allow for 2 seats in every direction? Yes the bathrooms and concessions would be a concerm, as would be those who gather despite being seated apart. There are ways that you may order your food via cell phone, have it left for you at the counter only released once you show the paid proof on the same phone with a control #, once told it is your turn. With smaller crowds, the same number of security personnel might be able to limit those in the restrooms as well. However should there be an concern, it is far better to not have people at the games.

Should media be allowed, I take public transportation, I always sit  near the doors, mine is the first stop and of course Penn. Station is the start on my return, if the train is too full, next one. To allow space upon entry is not so hard. We shall see how this goes. Neither MLS or the NWSL have made any statements on starting up again. It was said on a recent MLS broadcast that 3 weks out is being considered, but until the MIB games are done, it will be tough to judge. NWSL has of late been said to want to begin, I know of no even hoped for date, again finish the games in Utah first.
