NYRB South Ward Will no Longer Stand for Seating

By Sean McCaffery, December 18, 2019

Look, it is not as if they actually used the seats anyway, so beginning this coming season, it will be a Safe-standing Supporters section. This is all part and parcel of a long term program in updating RBA, more details on other upgrades to better enhance the experience at RBNY home games will be announced once finalized. Following the lead of LAFC & LA Galaxy, using the same firm, Trex as did LAFC who designed and built the area in Banc of California Stadium, sections 133, 101, & 102 will now have what is known as a safe standing with rail seating system. RBNY GM Mark de Grandpre stated, "When we looked at where we wanted to upgrade our arena, we quickly came to the conclusion that safe standing for our supporters had to be a top priority. As an organization we strive to create the best in-stadium experience for our fans. The passion and commitment from ESC & Viking Army will continue to make Red Bull Arena one of the best home-field advantages in MLS".

The objective is to have safe standing with rail seating so that the fans are in fact able to stand shoulder-to-shoulder throughout the game. The flexibility exists to unlock single seats a well, so that the sections may be returned to typical seating for other events, international games, etc. A great feature is there will be a cup holder at every seat. The seats are already in the process of being removed.

Bernon Fernandez, Board Member of Empire Supports Club added "Safe standing is the culmination of a long term project which began years ago for us. We believe this will enhance the experience for everyone at RBA. We appreciate the efforts by the Red Bullls Front Office, The Harrison Fire Department . We are excited about these changes and look forward to a new season in 101"

The Red Seat, a tribute to the first goal scored at RBA, dedicated to the memory of long time Supporter Mike Vallo who passed in 2015, has been given to his family, a new place in the 101 celebrating Mike will be revealed when this innovative project is full executed. Ralph "Chupi" Garcia Viking Army Board Member stated " We at the Viking Army are excited with the announcement of safe standing seating, as we have been wanting for years. We know it will bring added fun into the South Ward and step up our support level a few notches.

An open standing area will also be created just to the rear of the South Ward, to afford room for supporters to mingle about all the while with a great view of the game.

Red members in those sections will receive details from the team as Supporters Group members will be communicated with via their group hierarchy.
