From NYRB:
New York Red Bulls Head Coach Sandro Schwarz
On the match…
We were in a lot of moments, especially in the final third, that we don't play quick enough, that we don't be aggressive enough in our ball position. When you have the ball 64% that's a good number, but at the end it’s not the best number. It's more important how many touches you have in the box, how many big chances you have. We did not create good enough chances, and then we made two individual mistakes, how we concede the goals. But that can happen in a game, but at the end, we have to improve. And this is always the same topic, we have to improve. This is clear in my opinion, very clear to analyze this game, and also these 14 games. You can see this when we play very aggressive, when we play forward, when we play fast, when we play quick, then you can also make mistakes. It's no problem, but then you need directly, quick reaction.
On NYCFC’s performance…
They had so many moments in their build up to create these situations after losing ball. They had then transition chances the first half, [Alonso] Martinez and [Maxi] Moralez, our rest defense was not good in this organization, and they won. They deserve then to win after that and we have to look for our tactical points and also from our mental our reactions. This is what we need.
On moving forward to 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against FC Dallas…
We have to analyze the next couple of days, and then to prepare very serious the game on Wednesday and then to be ready against this game, because this is do or die game. This is competition. This is when you win the game, then it's good, and you're on the next round. When you lose the game, then you are out. So, we have to do everything at the end from the mental side. And I don't want to talk now about it's good that we are playing at home. It is more for us. What do we need here? What do we need in our game? What especially then in the final third, when the opponent is staying deep. But we will analyze Dallas and then we will see how the game on Wednesday.
New York Red Bulls Captain Emil Forsberg
On leading the team…
It's my responsibility, as well as a captain, to talk to the guys. It's important that we stay as a team. This kind of away results is it's important that we get a turnaround. I think as a team, we got to stay positive. It's a long season. We got to look ourselves in the mirror. Demand more. Simple as that, I think it's but it's very important that we as a team come together. I think it's important that we don't dig ourselves too deep. It's important that we keep on staying positive. We have another game on Wednesday. We can create a positive reaction from that. But like you said, we got to create some better memories on the road. Create them for ourselves. We have to do it ourselves. We can't expect someone else to do it for us. We got to do it ourselves. So, it starts next Saturday for us against the D.C. United. But as of now we got to focus on Wednesday. But like you said, we got to come together as a team. As a captain it's my responsibility to bring the team together.
On improving offensively…
We have to be a little bit more clever. See how they understand defensively when we come into the last third and create moments from that. I think we created, we had some moments in the first half as well, around the box, put the ball into the box a little bit more, see what happens. Play a little bit quicker sometimes. Sometimes, you just have to bring the ball into the box, and something will happen. So as of now, of course, it doesn't feel good. I think we lost the derby. So everybody is very disappointed, but it's important that we as a group, stay positive. Like I said, it's a long season. We stick around for ourselves, stick up for ourselves and demand more as a team, of course, as a group.
On the message to traveling supporters…
The support was unbelievable as well. I'm sorry we couldn't win the derby for them today. It's a big disappointment for us. But as always, I think their support is amazing, and we're going to build that momentum soon for everybody. We have a new game on Wednesday. Let's start there. Going to be disappointed today, tomorrow, but then on Wednesday, we go again. It's that's a good thing about these weeks we have a chance to create a positive week coming up with two victories. That's our duty.
