Gedion, has come east following a 2019 that had him getting time with Sporting KC and Swope Parkk Rangers. In the past he had been with both the German and USA youth National Teams as well as prestigious Arsenal FC , Rangers FC & VVV-Venlo over the years, at just 22 that is quite the resume.
Gedion stated " I'm really excited to be joing New York City FC. It's also a great city to live in, but mostly I'm ready to win a lot of soccer matches in 2020."
Getting to be a Gunnnar at just 16 and having 6 years with the club, he has more than tasted soccer at the highest of levels. 2014 had him get his first minutes in a FA Cup victory facing Coventry City, then 4 games total with Arsenal, even as a sub during a UEFA Champions League Match facing Turkish powerhouse Galastasaray.
Next stop, Rangers as they took him in on loan from Arsenal in 2015, over his 28 games there he had 8 assists as the side was then promoted back to the Premiership in Scotland.
Jan. of '17 had him yet again loaned out, this time to Dutch team VVV-Venlo with 9 games there and a first place finish in their Eerste Div. and a trophy.
Newly appoointed HC who had some time in Scotland, Ronny Deila informed "Gedion is a very versatile midfielder who can play across multiple positions. He's eager to begin this preseason and we're ready for him to get into camp and show off who he is as a player."
A native of Berlin Germany, he came to the USA, settling in DC and was coached while with the Olney Rangers byt NYCFC U-19 HC, Matt Pilkington.
David Lee NYCFC SD informed "We're really excited that Geidon is joining us ahead of the 2020 season. Even though he's still in the early portion of his career, he's gained really valuable experience at multiple clubs across a few different leagues. He's also represented the US youth National Team in 2 World Cups and we think we've identified a very talented player who can come in and develop with us and improve our squad."
All I can say is I wish both parties nothing but success. That one did not catch on in Europe at various levels, means very little at the MLS level. I do know that Peter Vermes is very good at evaluating talent and I know the same having worked with his asst. Zorin Savic in the past as he has a tremendous knowledge and understanding of the game and players. However at such a young age to have such vast experience is amazing, younger players have just this week been drafted out of the NCAA, their experiences are of no comparison to those of Gedion.
