Yes way too many NY's in the headline. please accept MY unfelt apology. This effort, with 3 local powerhouses will have all 34 games this season broadcast live on NYC owned radio outlet, WNYE 91.5 FM. In addition to this there will be a weekly talk show solely about soccer, Soccer City. I hope the Portland TImbers, long in Soccer CIty USA do not take umbrage. NYU School of Professional Studies will set up the lesson plans to be followed by NYC High School students in lesser served areas with hands-on learning with pro broadcasting as they help in the production of Soccer City. The talk show is to be hosted by long time soccer journalist and commentator Glen Crooks. NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) will have it's thrust in giving the academic exposure to these students aiding them with technical aspects of radio broadcasting/audio podcasting and improve their listening and storytelling abilities. It will be a semester long with hands-on learning as they work on Soccer CIty in off air production roles. Not just limited to this exposure, these same youngsters will be afforded the chance to deal with local media people, gaining advice and insight in this, their field of interest.
From Julie Menin, commissioner of the Mayors Office of Media and Entertianment "Soccer is the world's most popular sport, and NYC is in many ways a microcosm othe world, so it's fitting that the CIty's official radio station will bring NYCFC to audiences across the 5 boroughs. Similarly Jon Patricof, NYCFC prez. informs the team is energized by the numbers of NY people seeking to listen to them on the radio, knowing how entrenched soccer is in the city that this union, these great groups have come together with broadcast experience for a radio program. Utilizing the strength of the game, giving this experieince and abilities to talented youth from the City in the Community foundation. NYUSPS Dean Dennis Di Lorenzo added they are happy to work with the Mayor and NYCFC to start the game changing learning experience in getting those same populations the chance for a better grasp in the industry, this new effort grows and better establishes our dedicatain to get the NYU mark of high level, driven learning to those who gain the most from it.
