NEW YORK CITY FC HEAD COACH PASCAL JANSEN
On facing Charlotte FC again after the earlier meeting this season... “[I hope it’s a good game] and then that we do finish the chances that we get. We’ve played Charlotte [FC] quite a few times since I’ve been here, and those games are always fun to watch. I hope it will be an exciting match like the previous ones.”
On addressing the team’s lack of urgency in key moments... “You mentioned urgency. Urgency is something I mentioned as well, but on the other hand I’ve also mentioned casual behavior, and that is maybe even complacency. We have to realize how hard we always have to work to get our results and play the way we want to play. There is no room for these types of errors because that is something you should be in control of, as it is a mentality thing. Going into the next run of games, we are fully aware this needs to improve, and that is within our own behavior. So that is something we should be able to control better.”
NEW YORK CITY FC MIDFIELDER HANNES WOLF
On scoring his first professional hat trick... “I think the last hat trick I scored was when I was maybe 17 or 18. Obviously on a professional level, it’s very special for me. I think everybody who has scored a hat trick knows it’s a different feeling. So very, very nice, to be honest. But on the flip side, the next game is already waiting. This sport is so dynamic and so quick, and you have to show it again and score again and win again.”
On what the team identified during film review sessions... “I think during this period we still had good games and games where we could have taken three points. But you could see in most of the games where we conceded goals that we just missed urgency in certain moments...So it’s not just things you train, it’s also things you need to have in your mind and in your mentality. I think the coach made that very clear, so we were all aware of it. It was important to get this win now in MLS because in the [Lamar Hunt U.S.] Open Cup we went through to the next round, but in MLS we were still struggling and we want to build momentum now.”
