Yes, not out of Manchester City in England, but the lastest player to sign in from Liverpool FC, Uruguay, Nicolas Acevedo, who is with their YNT as well and will of course take up an international spot on the team. Just awarded the "Joven Talento del 2019" Young Talent of 2019 designation by the FA, given to the best U-21 player in their leagues, he at just 20 had 31 games and helped Liverpool to 5th in the league. This great showing got him the call up to the U-20's and he guided the team to the Sweet 16 in this last U-20 World Cup in Poland. He also saw a great deal of time with the U-23's of Uruguay as they took 3rd in the CONMBOL Olympic qualifiers trailing just Brazil and Argentina in 2020.
Nicolas stated "Being an NYCFC player is a great pride for me, my family and my friends. The truth is that going to a Club so big makes me excitied and it's an important step in my professional career. When I heard about the opportunity, I didn't doubt it. I was so excited and eager to sign."
Acevedo ascended in the Liverpool academy, located in his home city of Montevideo and had his first game in 2018, captain at 20 just last year. Twice in his tenure they achived the Copa Sudamericana and he put away a pk in the shootout as his team took the "Torneo Intermedio" in 2019, their first ever.
NYCFC HC Ronny Delia added "Nicolas is a very good addition. He's an excellent player. He's able to dictate the tempo. I'm excited for him to get to New York and join the squad."
He joins Taty Castellanos in being the only two out of the top tier of Uruguayan soccer, Taty began the 2nd half of 2018 on loan they became permanent with NYCFC for 2019, a tremendous season for him.
Sporting Dir. David Lee informed "We're thrilled that Nicolas has decided to join New York City FC. He has already gained a lot of experience for his club. His performances over the last 12 months have drawn attention from teams across the world. Nicolas has the ability to grow into an excellent player for us in the future."
