NEW YORK CITY FC II HEAD COACH MATT PILKINGTON
On the teams 2-0 halftime lead... " We controlled large parts of the first half especially early on, scoring goals in those moments. Then we had to be tuned in defensively just to make sure they didn't sneak one before halftime. We also [focused] in controlling the game without the ball [by staying organized] in a defensive shape. Overall, I thought the boys were very excellent on the ball first half, built-up well, and created some good chances.”
On Mac Learned’s performance today... “It was a big performance from Mac [Learned]. He's had to be patient with his minutes this season. He trains really well, and he is a good pro. He got his chance today and took it. It was big for us. He made some big and crucial saves, created some key moments, and played really well with the ball.”
NEW YORK CITY FC II GOALKEEPER MAC LEARNED
How do you evaluate your performance today... “I thought it was a great team effort. We talked about competing all week, especially after the last two games. We felt that will to want [the win] and compete as hard as we can. It was great to see in the first half we got off to a hot start, scored two goals early, and we just played well as a team. I couldn't ask for anything more than the effort that they put from everyone all around.”
On recording a career-high 10 saves on the road... “Obviously I have to do my job. I have to stay sharp, especially in the heat. You can get pretty tired even as a goalie. Overall, I'm focused and ready to help my team out however I can. I don't really count the saves. I don't really care [about the numbers], I'm just glad I could stop the other team from getting some goals.”
