NYCFC Castellanos MLS Player of the Week

By Sean McCaffery, November 2, 2020

His shot lead to the win off a Jesus Medina goal facing Toronto in the 1-0 NYCFC victory just days before. What really put the 22 year old member of Argentinas U-23 team over the top was the hat trick that we were witness to in a Derby match no less. The trio of goals was his first such game in his pro career and also made him the youngest in the short history of the team to do so. Just for good measure he also assisted on the goal by Gary Mackay-Steven at 42'.

The first tally came early when in the 12' he put away a Moralez crossing ball in the box with a header to the left post. NYRB replied with a pair of goals for a short lived lead. Then came his assist on a ball at 42' to Gary to go into the break knotted at 2.

They lead by one at the time but his 2nd goal made it 4-2 NYCFC at their home fortress at 76' this was a well taken shot from a Medina pass and he went upper right corner with it from inside the area.

A questionable from my angle anyway PK call on Parker with Maxi iced it as he got Meara going right and simply putt it away t the left at 84' .

The most surprising thing for me is that during this game I did not pick up on his making a nuisance of himself even once. He argued one offside call and the next, just minutes later he was joking with the officials.

Now in 5th place, NYCFC wraps up the season on Decision Day at Chicago.
