Thorarinsson, Gudmundur that is, out of the Swedish team IFK Norrkoping since 2017. He is 27, out of Iceland, think he saw the great movie viewed at the Kicking & Screening FIlm Festival, "Inside the Volcano"? and has played for his nation. He is a bit versitile as he has seen time as a left back and center mid alike. Over the last trio of years, he has 84 games in the top tier of Swedish soccer with 4 goals and 15 assists.

Gudmundur informed "Joining New York City FC is a big decision for me in my carrer. I've only heard great things about the club and I'm thrilled to get going and start playing football again. I've seen the way Ronny works and likes to play fotball, so that a was a realy big part of my decision. He likes to play possession football and keep the ball, which I love as well. The Icelandic DNA is to always give your best to the team."

Ahead of his last team, he he had been playing for Rosenborg BK and in 2016, they took the Tippeligaen and Norwegian Football Cups. Prior to that he had been with a few other teams, FC Nordsjaelland, a Danish team, Sarpsborg 08 FF of Norway and from Iceland, Iprottabandalag Vestmannaeyja & UMF Sefloss, the new NYCFC will take a lot less work for him to pronounce.

NYCF HC Ronny Deila stated "Gudmundur is a talented player and is a smart footballer on the pitch. He is versatile and his technique on the ball is very good, which is a tremendous fit for our system. He is also a great competitor and goes about business in a professional way. I've heard nothing but great things about him as an individual and I'm really excited to welcome him into our team ahead of the season."

He made his international debut facing Sweden in 2014 at just 21, he now has 5 games for Iceland, getting his last as recently as last year.

NYCFC SD David Lee contributed "Gudmundur is a player we've been tracking for some time and we're delighted he has chosen to join the club ahead of other opportunities he had in Europe. We primarily see Gudmundur adding competition at left back, but his versatility to play in multiple positins will be an asset for us as we compete in multiple competitioins throughout 2020. He has a lot of experience across different leagues in Scandanavia, but also in European competition and at the international level with Iceland. We continue to build a deep squad, which will be vey beneficial for us as we enter the Concacaf Champions League next month."
