Gerhard Struber comes to RBNY, following a bakers dozen of years as a pro and some time in youth development as well as previous head coaching  experience with FC Liefering, Barnsley FC & Wolfsberger FC. A fee, not disclosed but thought to be in the millions was paid to Barnsley FC to get him out of his contract with them, he will take his new job upon the securing of his US work visa.

Like Royer, he is from Austria and spent his pro career in its Bundesliga, starting with SV Austria Salzberg in 1995 and won the Bundesliga & Austrian Super Cups , then onto LASK for 2001, a few more teams before calling it a career with Red Bull Salzburg in 2008.

NYRB Head of Sport Kevin Thelwell informed "Gerhard is a bright coach, and we're very pleased to welcome him to the club. Gerhard's playing style and experience  in youth development align with our philosophy and above as, a person he fits into our culture. We look forward to him getting here and working together to achieve the goals we have set as a club. I would also like to commend Bradley Carnell and the rest of the coaching staff for their leadership during the last month as we continue to work towards securing a playoff spot this season."

He kicked off his coaching career at Salzburg and began to establish himself as a good developer of young talent. He headed the Red Bull Salzbug Academy for just under 10 years, gaining a UEFA Youth League Championship and was then tabbed as the asst. coach of Red Bull Salzburg in July of 2015, where he remained through 2017, when he was then off to  FC Liefering of the 2nd div in Austria.

Gerhard stated "I am looking forward to getting to know my new team, hopefully soon. We want to pursue very ambitions goals together and develop steadily. The challenge of working in MLS makes me proud and gives me massive motivation for a big opportunity."

From Liefering, he then went on to Wolfsberger in the Austrian Bundesliga who he then took to 3rd place in the league, thusly making the UEFA Europa League, a top game there was a win over the strong German side of Borussia Monchengladbach. Barnsley of the English Championship took notice and he took the reins there in Nov., leading them from the basement avoiding relegation.
